Meet Deanna Weik, Human Resources Director with our Human Services Agency!
“Having emigrated from the Philippines, this month gives me occasion to pause, reflect on, and value my Filipina-American identity and upbringing—family, faith, respect, resilience, community spirit, connections, culture, customs and cuisine. Asian American Pacific Islander heritage month is about raising awareness of the diverse range of AAPI communities and our many contributions that enrich our society.
I’ve been fortunate to have lived in CA for most of my life and Ventura is a special place I’m able to call home the past 20 years. Using my voice and serving the Ventura County community alongside people who are genuinely passionate and dedicated to public service and seeing the positive impact county programs have on individuals and families has been a privilege and a blessing.
It’s important for us to question our assumptions, to uncover hidden biases, and break down stereotypes, so we can build up our community through a sharing of our, history, ideas, and identities. We can use this month to continue learning, expanding our perspectives and believing others’ lived experiences, even if it means disturbing the comfort levels of our own realities. As the HR Director of the Human Services Agency for nearly 14 years, a daily practice of gratitude helps to ground me in the work that we do. I truly work with some amazing people and we’re better together.”
