COVID-19 Update
Since Friday, there have been 402 new COVID-19 cases reported and 11,704 new tests completed. There are 44 people hospitalized and 9 in the ICU.
There have been 4 new deaths of a 67 year old male, 73 year old female, 90 year old female, and a 94 year old male. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the community members who have passed away throughout the pandemic. Wellness Everyday offers grief and loss support and resources.
The R-effective for Ventura County is 0.51, meaning that the spread of COVID is likely decreasing.
The Masks mandate for Ventura County students ends after March 11; Masks Strongly Recommended but not Required; Students at public and private K-12 schools in Ventura County and throughout California will no longer be required to wear masks after March 11, regardless of their vaccination status. Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration made the announcement today, saying COVID-19 conditions have sufficiently improved to warrant the change. For more information visit www.vcoe.org/COVID-19.
Updated state masking guidance: In California, starting March 1, masks will no longer be required for unvaccinated individuals, but will be strongly recommended for all individuals in most indoor settings. After March 11, in schools and child care facilities, masks will not be required but will be strongly recommended. Masks will still be required for everyone in high transmission settings like public transit, emergency shelters, health care settings, correctional facilities, homeless shelters and long-term care facilities. New reporting schedule: COVID-19 updates will now be sent this week on Monday and Wednesday. Starting Monday, March 7, updates will be sent once per week on Mondays. Updates to the data on www.vcrecovers.org will align with this new reporting schedule.
83% of community members (ages 5+) have received one or more COVID vaccine doses.
75.9% of eligible community members have been fully vaccinated.

Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Grants Launched in Ventura County
The Ventura County Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Grant offers $2,500 grants to qualified small business and nonprofit enterprises. Small businesses such as sidewalk vendors, independent contractors, individual artists, and others that earned less than $50,000 in 2019 are encouraged to apply. Grants will be awarded until grant funding is exhausted. Funded in part through a grant from the California Office of the Small Business Advocate. The County of Ventura Board of Supervisors has allocated over $70 million in business assistance to businesses and nonprofits during the pandemic. The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), signed into law in March 2021, is a federally approved stimulus plan that provides $350 billion of stimulus funding to State and Local Governments out of the $1.9 trillion-dollar bill. It supports an equitable economic recovery from the economic impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. . The share expected to be received by the County of Ventura is approximately $164.3 million.
The County of Ventura wants to hear from community organizations and community members about how the county should prioritize using funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. The County’s Board of Supervisors will consider community feedback as community projects are funded.

Treatment for COVID-19
If you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are at high risk for developing severe COVID-19, you may be eligible for treatment, which might prevent you from becoming sicker. Treatment must be provided early so don’t wait to contact your medical provider to ask if you can receive treatment. People can be at high risk for many reasons. Some of the most common reasons are:
- 65 years old or older
- Obesity or being overweight based on clinical growth charts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Pregnancy
- Chronic kidney disease
- Diabetes
- Having a condition or receiving treatment that weakens or suppresses your immune system
- Heart or circulatory conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, and possibly high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Chronic lung diseases including COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma (moderate to severe), interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and pulmonary hypertension
- Sickle cell disease
- Neurodevelopmental disorders such as cerebral palsy
- Having a medical device (for example, tracheostomy, gastrostomy, or positive pressure ventilation [not related to COVID-19])
