Now I’m really going out on a technological limb. I grew up like everyone else in my generation without computers, cell phones or social media. We used classified ads in newspapers and magazines to advertise just about anything, and we communicated with our friends one at a time with our primitive landline phones, or in small physical groups (where we could see each other!). We actually wrote letters and put stamps on the envelopes.
But now here I am not only contemplating, but actually building, a YouTube channel for an online business I’m developing. One of the largest segments of potential customers for my product and services is the Hispanic market, so the challenge of promoting directly to this population in ways that few do is too interesting and enticing for me to pass up.
The project is daunting. I didn’t know where to start, so I downloaded a book that is teaching me about this fascinating medium which is used by so many to learn something that piques their interest. My first step was searching through online articles just to teach myself how to create a cover photo that would appear with the proper dimensions on phones, desktop computers and TV screens, all at the same time. Next I’ll be uploading product information videos and creating my own programs, tutorials and webinars. There isn’t much good information available for those who are hungry for this kind of knowledge in the Spanish language, and I’ve determined that I’m the one to supply it. Then I’ll merge this platform with my other web properties in English and Spanish to form a grand bilingual marketing eco-system.
Well, that’s the plan, anyway. One thing is certain—I’ll never be bored!

Ahora sí realmente me la estoy jugando tecnológicamente hablando. Crecí como todos los demás de mi generación sin computadoras, teléfonos celulares o redes sociales. En esos tiempos, usamos anuncios clasificados en periódicos y revistas para anunciar casi cualquier cosa, y nos comunicamos con nuestros amigos uno a la vez con nuestros teléfonos fijos y primitivos, o en pequeños grupos físicos (¡donde verdaderamente podíamos vernos!). De hecho, escribimos cartas y colocamos sellos en los sobres.
Pero ahora no solo estoy contemplando, sino que realmente estoy construyendo un canal de YouTube para un negocio en línea que estoy desarrollando. Uno de los segmentos más grandes de clientes potenciales para mis productos y servicios es el mercado hispano, por lo que el desafío de promocionar directamente a esta población de una manera que pocos lo han hecho es demasiado interesante y atractivo para dejarlo pasar sin hacer nada al respecto.
El proyecto es abrumador. No sabía por dónde empezar, así que bajé un libro en el Internet que me enseña sobre este fascinante medio que muchos utilizan para aprender algo que despierte su interés. Mi primer paso fue buscar entre artículos en línea solo para enseñarme cómo crear una foto de portada que apareciera con las dimensiones adecuadas en teléfonos, computadoras de escritorio y pantallas de TV, y en todos al mismo tiempo. A continuación, subiré videos de información sobre productos y crearé mis propios programas, tutoriales y seminarios en línea. No existe mucha buena información disponible para aquellos que de verdad anhelan este tipo de conocimiento en el idioma español, y he determinado que soy yo quien debería proporcionarlo. Luego fusionaré esta plataforma con mis otras propiedades web en inglés y español para formar un gran ecosistema de marketing bilingüe.
Bueno, ese es el plan, de todos modos. Una cosa es segura: ¡jamás me aburriré!
