OXNARD – For all those locals and visitors interested in learning all about the latest trends in mobile photography, the California Welcome Center (CWC) located at the Collection Shopping Center in Oxnard is teaming up with REI to offer a free photography class on August 25 from 4 to 6 pm at the CWC located at 2786 Seaglass Way.
The outdoor mobile photography class is open to 12 attendees and will be led by Vinit Satyavrata, REI inspired guide and professional photographer. Satyavrata will instruct participants how to be use their iPhones, Androids or other smartphone devices to capture great photography.
The class will include a class-style setting at the CWC followed by a walk to various public art spaces within the Collection to showcase the applications of photography via point and shoot and smartphone cameras.
The photography class ties in with a new campaign, “Oxnard Rocks” to be launched by the Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau which operates the CWC. The new campaign will highlight Oxnard as a hub destination city to the great outdoors. With Oxnard’s prime central location to some of the most scenic outdoor spots throughout the U.S., it makes for a great base to explore. “While Oxnard doesn’t have the usual feel as a trekking town, it’s definitely a central access point and short drive to amazing adventures such as the 500+ miles of trails in the Santa Monica Mountains or a trip to the Los Padres National Forest, a major supplier of wildland recreation for southern California,” stated Joshua Travers, Executive Director of the Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Plus, Oxnard has so many attractions to visit while discovering the great outdoors including its pristine Channel Islands Harbor where visitors can grab a tasty burger or get the fresh catch of the day before heading home,” he added.
Participants interested in attending the photography class must be able to walk or move around at a leisurely pace and bring a smartphone that is fully charged with an extra battery or rapid charger as a back-up. In addition to the class, the CWC will offer a drawing to win a package provided by REI which will include a backpacking or hiking field class for two, a pair of power lock trekking poles, a flash 18 back pack and two stainless steel cups. To register for the class, call the CWC at 805-988-0717.
