VENTURA — Participatory Artivism and Performance coming to West Ventura with David Solnit, world renowned artist from Oakland, CA, specializing in art activism on tour with The Peace Poets, a hip hop group from the Bronx, NYC, calling for social justice. They will be helping organize Ventura County climate activists in preparation for a march in San Francisco on September 8–CA Rise for Climate, Jobs and Justice. They will teach screen printing of banner flags and signs and how to design and lay out a large mural in the street. The Peace Poets will give an outdoor concert at dusk.

- WHY: 350 Ventura County Climate Hub organizers are building awareness and momentum within a statewide, national and global movement of hundreds of organizations organized by the Peoples’ Climate Movement. Similar 350 groups throughout California are hosting the Arts Tour to help prepare for the largest climate march on the West Coast on September 8 in San Francisco to demonstrate the urgency for a just transition to a sustainable economy and climate.
The September 8 march for Climate, Jobs and Justice precedes a week of climate meetings in the Bay Area including the Global Climate Summit September 11-14 hosted by Governor Jerry Brown.
Local objectives are:
a. To strengthen the local community through use of the arts and understanding of the connection of climate change to the Thomas Fire and the risks of future catastrophic fires and flooding.
b. To call on local leaders to act on climate as part of a global movement.
c. To collaborate with other environmental , labor and justice groups to create the biggest possible impact on attitudes, policies and actions to mitigate and adapt to climate impacts in Ventura County.
