VENTURA — Gustavo Arellano, award-winning editor and columnist with the Orange County Weekly, makes a return appearance at the Museum of Ventura County to speak about his column, Ask a Mexican, the museum reported in a media release.
The presentation will be in the Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Pavilion at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20. Tickets are $8 for non-members, $5 for members, and $3.00 for students and seniors. Price includes create-your-own nachos, and a no-host bar will be provided. Call (805) 653-0323 ext. 7 for reservations.
In this entertaining and interactive lecture, Arellano tells audiences everything they’ve always wanted to know about Mexicans but were afraid to ask. He discusses immigration and the impact of Latinos on this country at every level, including economically, socially, culturally and politically. He also addresses the role stereotypes play in American society and how satire can be used to deflate them.
Gustavo has been the subject of press coverage in national and international newspapers, The Today Show, Hannity, Nightline, Good Morning America, and The Colbert Report, and his commentaries regularly appear in Marketplace and the Los Angeles Times. Arellano has received the President’s Award by the Los Angeles Press Club and an Impacto Ward from the National Hispanic Media Coalition. He has been recognized by the California Latino Legislative Caucus with a 2008 Spirit Award for his “exceptional vision, creativity, and work ethic.” Arellano is a lifelong resident of Orange County and is the proud son of two Mexican immigrants.
