Announcement: Author presentation this weekend

By Mona AlvaradoFrazierGuest contributor

This weekend we have an interactive and fun author presentation for children within Ventura County. At the Ventura Bank of Books, we have “My Handy Writing Book: A New, Fun and Easy Way to Write Stories,” by Amada Irma Pérez, illustrated by Lili Sosa.

Bring the kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews to the Bank of Books at 748 E. Main St. in Ventura, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 for a great afternoon of fun, art, music, and cookies.

The educational and individual potential benefits of writing are many, including opportunities to

•            Sort out experiences, solve problems and consider varying perspectives.

•            Gain in independent thinking and self-expression

•            Examine relationships with others and the world

•            Reflect on personal values, goals, and ideals.

•            Improve reading and speaking skills

•            Build self-confidence

How to write stories and narratives is something that students in all grades need to master, yet few methods are easy, enjoyable, and produce an individual artistic reminder. This book makes the process of writing exciting for children, their parents, and teachers. Grandparents will also find it irresistible to share and write their own stories with their grandkids as they help to color the whimsical black and white illustrations and trace hands on the blank pages. Kids will create their own family heirlooms.

Praise for this book comes from Sandra Cisneros, author of The House on Mango Street, “Amada…is a captivating storyteller and educator… (and) knows how to make the complicated act of writing easy and available to all…” Rene Colato Lainez, author of From North to South and The Tooth Fairy Meets El Raton Perez states, “My Handy Writing Book is a must in schools, libraries, and homes.”

The author will give out free “My Handy Writing Books,” to the first 20 guests in line, one per family.
