Lumina Alliance Receives Grant from The Community Foundation SLO County and Opportunity to Thrive Initiative

Grant supports survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence

SAN LUIS OBISPOLumina Alliance received $35,000 in funding from the Opportunity to Thrive Initiative and The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County. This grant will be used to help survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence exiting Lumina Alliance’s emergency shelters overcome barriers to their self?sufficiency.

On July 1, 2021, RISE San Luis Obispo County and Stand Strong merged to become Lumina Alliance. Prior to the merger, both organizations were awarded Opportunity to Thrive funds to support survivors in transition working to establish self?sufficiency. The combined funding will better equip Lumina Alliance’s case management program to help survivors gain self?sufficiency and independence while empowering them to heal from trauma, secure safe housing for themselves and their children, and live violence?free lives in the community. In 2020, RISE received a $5,000 grant from Opportunity to Thrive and the Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County, which allowed RISE case managers to assist over 70% of survivors and their children exiting the emergency shelters transition to safe housing.

The purpose of the Opportunity to Thrive Initiative is to provide support to individuals and families in transition, striving to achieve self?sufficiency and stability. Grant funds are used to overcome one?time barriers and address gaps in assistance programs.

The Community Foundation has been supporting the County with grants and scholarships totaling more than $37 million since 1998. For more information on The Community Foundation or any funds, call 543?2323 or log on to www.cfsloco.org
