Assemblymember Irwin’s Statement on Ending the DACA program

SACRAMENTO — “I’m appalled by today’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program,” said Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks)

“Nearly 800,000 DACA recipients in the United States have now been put at risk of deportation, including close to 200,000 of them who currently reside in California.

These immigrants, who were brought to the United States as children by their parents, have made a commitment to work, go to school, and become productive members of our society. DACA recipients distinguish themselves as first responders and serve this country as members of our Armed Forces.

I stand by them, and I will do everything in my power as a member of the California State Assembly to ensure we do not turn our backs on the commitments we have made to them.”
