OXNARD — Organization / institutions are encouraged to participate in the “Nomination for Appropriations” 2014 Rebozo Festival Awards, festival organizers reported this week in a media release.
The awards are presented annually by Rebozo Festival Inc. of Ventura County, CA. The next event will be held on May 18, 2014 at the Camarillo Ranch House. For its 10th consecutive year, funds in the amount of up to $15,000 will be awarded to an eligible organization.
The Rebozo Festival was organized in 1995 by a group of dedicated volunteers. The annual celebration promotes the rich cultural heritage of the community symbolized by the colorful Mexican Rebozo (shawl) as the event’s central theme.
This past year’s charity recipient was awarded to the One Step A La Vez program based in the city of Fillmore. Rebozo Festival Inc. also contributed to the Park Oaks Outreach program in Thousand Oaks, the Future Leaders of America and the Fiesta Patrias Scholarship and the United Way Women’s Leadership Council that supports young women leaving the foster care program at age 18.
Previous recipients include the Heart 2 Heart program, Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), Inlakech Cultural Center, United Farm Workers Freeze Relief Fund, the Oxnard College Women’s Re-entry Program, the Ventura County Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children, and the Foundation, Educational and Employment Resources Development/Café on A.

Rebozo Festival organizers encourage organizations to apply if they meet the following requirements.
- An IRS-recognized non-profit organization/institution
- Located in Ventura County serving Ventura County Latino residents
