2013 Rebozo Festival Awards applications now available

OXNARD — Organization/institutions are encouraged to participate in the “Nomination for Appropriations” 2013 Rebozo Festival Awards, the organization reported in a media release. The awards are presented annually by Las Madrinas del Rebozo Festival of Ventura County. The next event will be held in May 2013 at the Camarillo Ranch House. For its 9th consecutive year, funds in the amount of up to $10,000 will be awarded to eligible organizations.

The Rebozo Festival was organized in 1995 by a group of dedicated volunteers. The annual celebration promotes the rich cultural heritage of the community symbolized by the colorful Mexican Rebozo (shawl) as the event’s central theme.

This year’s charity recipient was awarded to the Heart 2 Heart program. The Madrinas also contributed to the United Way Women’s Leadership Council, Community Roots Garden, the Society of St Vincent de Paul, Triton Recycling Program of Pacifica High School, Teatro de las Americas, and Fiesta Patrias Scholarship. Previous recipients include the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), Inlakech Cultural Center, United Farm Workers Freeze Relief Fund, the Oxnard College Women’s Re-entry Program, the Ventura County Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children, and the California Association of Bilingual Educators (CABE).
