Bilingual report — Roadway improvements planned for State Route 34 for enhanced traffic safety

SOMIS — AMCAL Multi-Housing, Inc. in partnership with the County of Ventura will be performing off-Site roadway improvements to the recently completed Somis Ranch Apartments to enhance safety for future residents, as well as the general public. As previously announced on the April 2d press release, the project will include construction of two new bus stops, new right- and left-turn lanes, a new traffic signal at the entrance to the housing development, roadway widening, drainage upgrades, updated signage and striping, and the addition of a bike lane. These improvements are designed to enhance safety and accessibility for residents and the traveling public along SR-34.

VENTURA COUNTY — The Board of Supervisors recently approved Ventura County Public Works Agency’s (VCPWA) Multi-Year Pavement Plan 2024 – 2028. The Road Repair and Accountability Act funds this Plan with a planned five-year budget of $45 Million.

VCPWA has plans to resurface 192 centerline miles (centerline miles represent the total length of a given road from a start point to an endpoint. The mileage does not include the size, number of lanes, or other features, like shoulders and turn lanes). Other works added to the paving projects are repairs to culvert and storm drains, curb and gutter, and sidewalks (which are reimbursed by the property owners). In addition, VCPWA will improve drainage, ADA access curb ramps, pavement widening at curves, and correct safety issues when feasible.

Today the Ventura County Board of Supervisors approved the acceptance of active transportation program cycle 6 grant funds for the Saticoy pedestrian project. This is the second state-sponsored Active Transportation Plan grant awarded to Ventura County Public Works Agency, and the $3.49m grant will be used for the Saticoy Area pedestrian improvement project, which was identified as the top priority project in the Saticoy Active Transportation Plan.

Three Ventura County businesses were recently approved for 4%, fixed-rate loans totaling $12,739,000 through the Ventura County Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) program. The RMDZ is a statewide program consisting of 40 zones, and is administered in Ventura County by the Ventura County Public Works Agency.

Ventura County is challenging residents living in Ventura County unincorporated areas to work together to clean up their communities by disposing/recycling household materials. These events are provided on behalf of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, Ventura County Public Works Agency, Harrison Industries, and Waste Management.

Residents currently subscribed to trash, recycling, and green waste service through a County contract collector will receive a notice in the mail one (1) month prior to each event. All events will have minimum contact and will be drive-through. There will be assistance with vehicle unloading and all County Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.

The County of Ventura Public Works Agency has been awarded Employer of the Year for 2020-2021 by the International Right of Way Association (IRWA), Chapter 47. IRWA is a global, member-led organization of dedicated professionals whose purpose is to improve quality of life through excellence in infrastructure development.

In this case, the County of Ventura Public Works Agency provided technology and staff to ensure that Chapter meetings continued virtually during the pandemic with monthly programs continuing to show best practices on public works projects and real estate issues arising in the Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County areas.
