SMHS Agricultural Teacher and FFA Advisor Luis Guerra was recently selected as the South Coast Regional Golden Owl Award winner, making him one of six finalists in the state for the Ag Educator of the Year.

Nationwide Insurance’s Golden Owl Award sheds light on the selfless contributions agricultural teachers play in the communities they serve and the countless hours they spend preparing future generations for successful careers.

Santa Maria HS FCCLA take part in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) during FCCLA Week

 The Santa Maria High School FCCLA recently joined more than 182,000 members across the nation in raising awareness of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and advocating for Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) during FCCLA Week.

Held annually during the second week of February in conjunction with Career and Technical Education Month, FCCLA Week celebrates the accomplishments of FCCLA and the positive impact FCS has on our society, according to Saint Teacher and Advisor Nicki Pedeliski.

Santa Maria High School to increase number of Saints applying for financial aid

Santa Maria High School officials this month will increase the of number Saints applying for financial aid by helping them complete either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADA), with a goal of 100 percent participation. 

April 30 — Santa Maria High School students to present Saints Virtual Talent Show

Santa Maria High School students and faculty will take entertainment to new heights during the Saints Virtual Talent Show at 4 p.m. April 30.

The submission period for two-to-three minute videos began today and wraps up April 15. The videos can be uploaded at WWW. BIT.LY/TALENTSMHS and the names/ student identification should be directed to mgoldin@smjuhsd.org.

Santa Maria HS FCCLA Trains Chapter Officers at Regional Leadership Training

Five Santa Maria High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter officers virtually attended Region 7’s Chapter Leader Officer Training (COLT) on Saturday, October 17.

Chapter officers included: Gail Victoria Demition, Cristal Gomez, Maria Nolasco, Norah Reynes and Yosuni Rodriguez. The officers were given the opportunity to network with other FCCLA leaders from around the area, receive training regarding their chapter office position, and advance their leadership skills.

“I liked the atmosphere that was created between all of us at our meeting and what FCCLA stands for in general,’’ Gomez said.

University Bound SMHS Seniors receive drive-through recognition

Santa Maria High School seniors already academically prepared for universities received recognition during a drive-through event in the Thornburg parking lot on Sept. 24.

About 250 Saints, who have met A-G requirements (university entry mandates), plan to pick up a certificate, lawn sign, senior toolkit and enter a raffle for prizes. The UC/CSU application process is approaching.

Two Santa Maria public high schools will celebrate academic excellence during separate drive-thru events today (Thursday, May 21).

Righetti High School’s senior awards are scheduled to be given out from 10 a.m. to noon in the bus-loading zone. About 190 students are involved, according to Daniel Solis, College and Career Specialist.

Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Board of Education approves Steve Campbell as principal of Santa Maria High School

 The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Board of Education on Tuesday night approved Steve Campbell as the principal of Santa Maria High School.

Superintendent Antonio Garcia made the announcement during the regular board meeting. Campbell has served as interim principal since April 2018 when former principal Joe Domingues retired.
