Mayor John C. Zaragoza Speaks to Oxnard’s Continued Progress During Annual WVCBA State of the City Address
OXNARD — On June 14, 2024, the West Ventura County Business Alliance (WVCBA) hosted Mayor John C. Zaragoza for the annual State of the City address. Over 200 attendees gathered to hear the Mayor’s updates on Oxnard’s positive and balanced budget, which includes a $35 million surplus; significant investments in improving Oxnard’s streets; and the City’s plan to help businesses grow and thrive in Oxnard.
“I’d like to thank the West Ventura County Business Alliance for the opportunity to share with the business community the great progress we’re seeing throughout Oxnard,” said Mayor Zaragoza. “Despite the economic challenges that many cities are facing, Oxnard has its first budget surplus in more than two decades. It’s a testament to the hard work of our City Council, staff, and community members who continue to support our City’s leadership.”

WVCBA awards prestigious Oxnard Trophy to Oxnard College’s 2022 Men’s Soccer State Champions
OXNARD — The West Ventura County Business Alliance (WVCBA) has announced Oxnard College’s 2022 Men’s Soccer State Championship team as winner of the prestigious Oxnard Trophy. The trophy will be presented at the 73rd annual Oxnard Community & Business Awards on Thursday, August 17, at 11:30 am at Heritage Square.
The team won the California Community College Athletic Association men’s soccer championship in December 2022, its second time in seven years. They completed the season with a 22-1-1 record and were undefeated in conference. In addition, player Odin Rosten and head coach Ross Greaney received National Player and Coaching Staff of the Year awards, respectively, at the United Soccer Coaches national convention in January.
Since 1963, the Oxnard Trophy has been presented to a person, business or organization that has brought recognition to Oxnard and bettered the community. The winner is selected by WVCBA’s Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.

CAMARILLO — The West Ventura County Business Alliance (WVCBA) has opened nominations for the 56th annual Camarillo Top Ten Community Awards.
Any person, business or nonprofit whose deeds and actions have contributed to the betterment of Camarillo’s community is eligible to be nominated. Now in its 73rd year, the West Ventura County Business Alliance (WVCBA) hosts the annual awards to recognize the people, businesses and organizations that make Oxnard a wonderful community in which to live, work and play.
Nominations are open to the public. You do not have to be a WVCBA member to submit nominations or win an award.
WVCBA Announces the 2022 Chairperson’s Awards of Excellence Recipients
The West Ventura County Business Alliance (WVCBA), the chamber of commerce serving Camarillo and Oxnard, is pleased to announce its annual Chairperson’s Awards of Excellence recipients, the Ambassador of the Year, and the Ken Cunningham Award winner. By tradition, all were selected by outgoing 2022 Chair of the Board Dawn Simmons, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones.
Honorees will be celebrated at the WVCBA’s Annual Meeting and Installation of Directors on Friday, January 20, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Spanish Hills Club in Camarillo. The semi-annual event is designed to bring together businesses and potential new customers in a fun, casual networking environment. The Business Expo is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodwill Industries of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, and Sonesta Select Camarillo.

Now in its 72nd year, the Community & Business Awards honors outstanding individuals, businesses and organizations that make Oxnard a wonderful community to live, work and do business in.
