Registration opens Feb. 12 for free Safety Around Water Classes at Yarrow Family YMCA

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Registration will open on February 12 for Safety Around Water (SAW) classes at the Yarrow Family YMCA in Westlake Village. The free, six-session program provides water safety and basic swimming skills to children with little or no water experience.

The once-a-week sessions are offered on Mondays March 4 through April 15, and on Wednesdays March 6 through April 17.  Class times are 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. SAW is for elementary-aged children. It teaches participants how to exit a pool safely and other water safety skills.

Enrollment For YMCA Winter Swim Lessons in Westlake Village Now Open

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Enrollment for winter swim lessons is open for classes at the Yarrow Family YMCA in Westlake Village and Simi Valley Family YMCA. Group lessons are from January 16 through February 26. Private lessons are also available.

Weekly swim classes have a maximum ratio of one teacher per five swimmers. Swimmers are assigned classes based on their age and swimming ability. Age groups are three to five years, five to seven years and eight to 12 years. Parent/child classes are for children from six months of age to three years old. Swim diapers are required for infants and toddlers. Parents can select from class times and days on Mondays through Thursdays and on Saturdays.

Yarrow Family YMCA Seeking Coaches For Flag Football League

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — The Yarrow Family YMCA is seeking coaches for its upcoming Winter Flag Football League. Games take place on Fridays at Westlake Community Park next to the Yarrow Family YMCA (31107 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Westlake Village). The league is run in partnership with A-Town Football.

Coaches are responsible for recruiting players for their teams (a minimum of seven players is required). Coach registration opens online on Monday, October 16. Registration is done on a first-come, first-served basis. Players will be sent a link to register to play for their team once their coach has officially registered.

Summer Swim Sessions Start Soon At The Simi and Yarrow YMCAs

The Simi Valley YMCA and Yarrow Family YMCA have opened registrations for their first summer session of swim programs. This session’s swim lessons are from June 19 through July 29 (no lessons from July 3 to July 8).

Group and private lessons are available for members and non-members in the community. Classes are offered in the afternoon and early evening during the week and on Saturdays for children as young as 3 years old. Children are grouped by age and taught the same skills. Lessons are once per week and class sizes are at a 1 to 5 instructor-student ratio.

Yarrow Family YMCA Adventure Guides Hosts More Than 150 Parents And Kids At Community BBQ

The Yarrow Family YMCA (sevymca.org) hosted a free community BBQ and outdoor movie night for Conejo Valley families through its Adventure Guide and Trailblazer programs. More than 150 parents and kids attended the August 20 event.

“The welcome BBQ was a chance for families to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones as we embark on a fresh year of discovery, growth and fun,”  says Tori Cusack, Youth and Family Program Director at the Yarrow Family YMCA.

Summer Enrichment Workshops At Yarrow Family YMCA

The Yarrow Family YMCA (31105 East Thousand Oaks, Blvd., Westlake Village) is holding summer enrichment workshops for kids ages five to 11 years old that offer programs focusing on sports, dance, cheer/gymnastics and musical theater.

Registration is underway for the July cheer/gymnastics and musical theater workshops. Kids in the cheer/gymnastics workshop learn cheers and cheer dance routines along with introductory tumbling and gymnastics. Musical theater workshop participants learn songs and choreography from some of the top Broadway musicals while working on their acting skills.

In August, a sports workshop and a dance workshop will be offered along with a second round of cheer/gymnastics and musical theater sessions. The sports workshop will focus on increasing skills in soccer, basketball and flag football. The dance workshop will have children working on dance techniques for ballet, jazz and hip hop.

Sponsorship Opportunities Available for 8th Annual Yarrow Family YMCA Golf Classic

The Yarrow Family YMCA is seeking sponsors for its 8th Annual Golf Classic, taking place Monday, May 2, at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village. The title sponsor for the YMCA’s “On Course For A Cause” tournament is Amoroso Companies.

Available sponsorships range from tee/green signs to exclusive host sponsor.

The day’s events begin at 9:00 a.m. with breakfast, putting contest and open driving range. The shotgun tournament is at 11:00 a.m. Participants are served lunch and opportunities for prizes. The day concludes with a reception and award presentations.

Openings Still Available For YMCA After School Childcare Programs

YMCA branches serving the Conejo Valley/Las Virgenes, Simi Valley and Moorpark areas have a limited number of openings left for children in TK through fifth grade for YMCA after-school childcare programs for the 2021-22 school year.

Yarrow Family YMCA provides childcare in the Las Virgenes School District at Sumac/Mariposa, Willow and Yerba Buena elementary schools in Agoura Hills and White Oak Elementary in Westlake Village.

Simi Valley Family YMCA offers childcare at Big Springs, Hollow Hills, Katherine and White Oak elementary schools.

Conejo Valley YMCA is providing childcare at Peach Hill Academy Elementary School in Moorpark and M.A.T.E.S. Charter School in Thousand Oaks.

Sponsorship Opportunities Available for 7th Annual Yarrow Family YMCA Golf Classic

The Yarrow Family YMCA is seeking sponsors for its 7th Annual Golf Classic, taking place Monday, August 9, at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village. Simi Valley and Yarrow Family YMCA Indoor Fitness Centers Reopen March 29

The YMCAs in Simi Valley and Westlake Village will reopen their indoor fitness centers Monday, March 29.

Both Ys’ indoor facilities have been closed since last summer. Sanitation and social distancing procedures have been put in place following county guidelines. Masks will be required while inside and outside YMCA buildings.

“We’ve spaced our workout equipment at least six feet apart. Our staff will disinfect surfaces and provide a thorough cleaning of the facility throughout the day,” says Ronnie Stone, President and CEO of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back. We’re confident we can provide our members with a great, safe experience.”

YMCA Branches Offering Kids’ Outdoor Enrichment Classes

Branches of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA are offering outdoor, in-person enrichment programs for preschoolers through age 11.
The Yarrow Family YMCA holds classes Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Preschoolers get moving with “Preschool Hip Hop” on Mondays and “Preschool Ballet” on Thursdays and Fridays. Storytime readings are from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays.

Parents looking for creative after-school enrichment classes for their 5 to 11-year-olds can sign them up for “Theater Games” on Mondays, and “Move And Groove” and “Beginning Hip Hop” on Thursdays.

Southeast Ventura County YMCA Offers Virtual/Outdoor Class Membership and Full Membership Options In January

New Year’s resolutions often include promises to ourselves to get in shape. The Southeast Ventura County YMCA, serving the Conejo and Simi Valleys, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Moorpark and Santa Rosa Valley, is offering a number of membership options through January to help keep those resolutions.

Full memberships are available at the Yarrow Family YMCA in Westlake Village and the Simi Valley Family YMCA. Membership includes access to all adult and youth fitness and cultural programs. Virtual and live outdoor class memberships are also available. They include unlimited participation in over 65 weekly virtual and outdoor, in-person physical fitness classes.

Southeast Ventura County YMCA and Columbia Memorial Space Center Join Forces On New STEM Club For Middle Schoolers

The Southeast Ventura County YMCA and the Columbia Memorial Space Center have collaborated on a new advanced STEM program for local middle schoolers. The YMCA’s STEM Club begins October 19 with virtual meetings.

The program is divided into three units–Aerospace (October 19 through December 18), Solar Chemistry (January 18 through March 26) and 3D Printing and Robotics (April 12 through June 18). Club members meet Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (virtually and when approved, in person).

Sign-Ups Underway For Southeast Ventura County YMCA’s Youth & Government

Branches of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA are accepting sign-ups for their Youth & Government programs. The programs are an opportunity for high school students to learn about the legislative process and what it takes to participate in such roles as elected officials, judges, lawyers, advocates, legislators, county supervisors and city council persons.

Southeast Ventura County YMCA Branches Offer New Outdoor/Virtual Group Exercise Classes

The Southeast Ventura County YMCA is now offering outdoor exercise classes at its three branch locations and virtual exercise classes online.

Outdoor exercise classes include total body conditioning, group cycle, spin, Pilates/yoga, boot camp, tai chi and senior-focused exercises. Classes start as early as 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, at the Conejo Valley YMCA, Simi Valley Family YMCA and Yarrow Family YMCA. The classes are free to YMCA members and $29 per month (introductory rate) for nonmembers.

Registration Open For New YMCA KEY Academy and Childcare During Upcoming School Year

Southeast Ventura County YMCA is taking registrations for the Y’s KEY Academy to coincide with school openings in August. The KEY Academy is designed to enable parents to meet work demands while provide their children with a safe, structured environment for learning.
