Ventura County Credit Union Welcomes Paul Emanuels as New Vice President of Lending

VCCU announces new vice president of member services

To best serve Ventura County Credit Union’s members with skill and expertise, VCCU has promoted Sean P. McCulloch to serve as the credit union’s new vice president of member services.

McCulloch brings a wealth of financial services experience to his new role, including 8 years as VP of commercial lending for VCCU. He has spent 44 years in the financial services industry, having served in leadership, sales and service experience, including a strong background in customer service and retail branch management. 

The Foundation of VCCU gives $40,000 in grants to local nonprofits

The Foundation of VCCU, Ventura County Credit Union’s (VCCU) philanthropic nonprofit organization, has provided $40,000 in grants to eight local nonprofit organizations. The grant money will support these organizations’ efforts to improve the lives of Ventura and Santa Barbara county residents.

Each of the eight nonprofits received a $5,000 grant from The Foundation of VCCU. The grant recipients included Conejo Schools Foundation, Gold Coast Veterans Foundation, Wishtoyo Chumash Foundation, Reins of H.O.P.E., School on Wheels, Social Justice Fund for Ventura County, Ventura County Family Justice Center and Project Bicycle Love. The eight recipients were chosen from a pool of 24 applicants.

All winners attended the virtual grant celebration event on March 8 along with Foundation BOD and Advisory Members.

VCCU supports financial inclusion with employee promotion and new hire

To support Ventura County Credit Union’s ongoing efforts to ensure representation of all community members as it works to boost financial wellness and inclusion, the credit union has promoted Arturo Zaragoza to director of financial equity programs and hired Jaime Doniaz as financial inclusion and education manager.

Zaragoza has served as a branch manager at VCCU for nine years and has more than 16 years of experience working in the financial services industry. His efforts to support the financial well-being and inclusion of diverse individuals and groups throughout the community have earned him recognition and awards from the Pacific Coast Business Times, Oxnard High School District, Consulate of Mexico and Oxnard Chamber of Commerce. He is also a Ventura County Leadership Academy graduate, advisory board member for the UCSB Customer Experience Program, Food Share volunteer and youth soccer coach.

Ventura County Credit Union earns Low Income Designation

Ventura County Credit Union is now officially a Low Income Credit Union (LICU). This Low Income Designation, granted by the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, demonstrates VCCU’s commitment to supporting the underserved.

To receive Low Income Designation, a credit union must show that at least half of its membership is at or below the 80th percentile of area’s median income. Other factors that helped VCCU earn this designation include the financial support provided by both the credit union and its foundation, as well as VCCU’s financial education efforts, partnerships with organizations like MICOP and the Mexican Consulate, and designation as a Juntos Avanzamos credit union.

VCCU partners with Premier America Foundation to support financial literacy

Ventura County Credit Union and Premier America Foundation are partnering to bring financial education to teenagers through a series of local classes. This new program will give young people in Ventura County the opportunity to learn money management basics that will help them build a healthy financial future. 

“Financial literacy makes a huge difference for young people as they begin their adult lives,” said Edith Campa, VCCU’s financial inclusion and education manager. “This program will provide an excellent foundation by introducing important financial topics, and giving teens an opportunity to practice the skills they’ve learned through a fun, hands-on simulation with real-life scenarios.”

VCCU raises $13,000 for Food Share’s CAN-tree drive

During Food Share’s 10th annual CAN-tree food drive, Ventura County Credit Union joined forces with its members, employees and vendors to raise $13,000 to support those experiencing food insecurity. This was VCCU’s 10th consecutive year participating in the food drive.

During the CAN-tree drive, individuals, businesses and organizations can collect canned goods themselves or “buy and build” by sending funds directly to Food Share to purchase cans. Then, participants stack the cans into a display of holiday-themed CAN-trees. Each tree requires approximately 600-800 cans to build. After the event is over, Food Share distributes the cans to food pantries that serve Ventura County residents.

VCCU board member donates $10,000 to nonprofits in honor of retirement

As a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution, Ventura County Credit Union supports the local community in a variety of ways, including offering its board members $10,000 at retirement to donate to nonprofits of their choice. In honor of his recent retirement from the board, Phil Bohan chose to contribute $5,000 to each Food Share and Casitas Rowing.

“Food Share has done a remarkable job of addressing the basic nutritional needs of our most vulnerable communities, and I am proud to support their efforts,” Bohan said. “The Casitas Rowing family continues to support the health and athleticism of our local youth and adults through its rowing programs. My thanks to both organizations for your efforts, and best of luck in continuing to grow and thrive.”

VCCU employees help Make a Wish come true for local child

Delilah is an energetic 5-year-old who always has a smile on her face. She also has a nervous system disorder that causes seizures and has endured many hospital visits in her young life. She loves to play outside with her sister, so she and her family wished for a backyard playset with a shady playhouse. In partnership with Make-A-Wish® Tri-Counties, Ventura County Credit Union employees helped make Delilah’s wish come true.

Through a series of fun employee events and activities, VCCU raised $5,000 to make Delilah’s wish come true. Her playset has a slide, swings, a climbing wall and a playhouse that Delilah can enjoy all year long. 

VCCU aids local nonprofits with support of FHLBank San Francisco

Ventura County Credit Union has been selected for FHLBank San Francisco’s donation matching program. This means FHLBank San Francisco will match recent contributions that VCCU made to three local nonprofits.

VCCU made its original donations to Food Share, Ventura County Community Foundation and Health Care Foundation for Ventura County last June through the #VCCUCares program. FHLBank San Francisco is matching $25,000 of VCCU’s total contributions, and the funds will be split among the three nonprofits.
