VENTURA — A public hearing, as provided by law, will be held by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., at 800 S. Victoria Avenue, Ventura CA 93009, County Government Center, Hall of Administration, Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, to consider and decide the Planning Director’s request for revocation of Conditional Use Permit (CUP) No. 960, as modified by LU06-0011, that authorizes a wastewater treatment facility, commonly known as Santa Clara Wastewater (SCWW) Treatment Facility or also as “RI-NU,” Case No. PL23-0121. The Board will consider the related California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) determination for the project at this hearing.

VENTURA — On Tuesday, February 13, the Board of Supervisors, voted to ratify the proclamation of a local emergency put forth by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services to secure federal disaster assistance in relation to the storms that affected the county beginning on February 4. The vote to ratify occurred following the date of the proclamation since the Board of Supervisors was not in session on the date the proclamation was authored.
“The prospective funding that we would receive from FEMA is essential to our ability as a county to support residents as we perform repairs to local infrastructure that sustained major damage,” said Kelly Long, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “We hope these funds can quickly become available to assist the County in covering the costs related to the most recent storms.”

VENTURA — On Tuesday, Jan. 9, by unanimous vote, the Board of Supervisors authorized the signing of a tolling agreement concerning the Santa Susana Field Laboratory Clean-Up Project. Parties to the agreement include the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, The Boeing Company, the United States on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the City of Los Angeles, the City of Simi Valley, the County of Los Angeles, and the County of Ventura.
The tolling agreement clarifies and extends the deadline for the filing of potential lawsuits challenging the Programmatic Environmental Impact Report for the clean-up project which was certified by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control in July 2023.

VENTURA — Through unanimous vote, the Board of Supervisors (on July 11) appointed Gina Johnson to the position of Chief Probation Officer, effective July 11, 2023. Chief Johnson has served the Probation Agency since 1991. For the past 10 years, she has served as the Chief Deputy Probation Officer and, most recently, the Interim Chief Probation Officer.
“Chief Johnson has been with the department for 33 years and seen every nook and cranny of the organization,” said Chair of the Board of Supervisors, Matt LaVere. “The Probation Agency is a complex organization and I have all the confidence in the world that she will succeed in this role.”

In appreciation of their service and dedication to the County, the Board of Supervisors presented 18 employees with Employee Recognition Awards during the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, May 23. Reserved for staff who have 25 years or more of continuous service to the County, employees from the Assessor’s Office, Department of Child Support Services, District Attorney’s Office, Fire Department, General Services Agency, Health Care Agency, Human Services Agency, Information Technology Services Department, Public Works Agency, Probation Agency, and the Sheriff’s Office received awards. The staff who were honored were recognized for having served across County agencies between 25 and 40 years, with their career spans totaling a combined 510 years of service.
“It’s amazing when you survey the number of years in combined service to the community,” said Matt LaVere, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “Each of these employees made an intentional decision that their career was going to be in service to the residents of Ventura County. Each one has done an exceptional job across our many County agencies and represent true public servants.”
American Medical Response Ventura County and Gold Coast Ambulance Are Prepared to Respond to County’s RFP for Services
At the July 26, 2022, Ventura County Board of Supervisors meeting, the board voted to place the emergency ambulance service contract out for competitive bid. The current contract for American Medical Response (AMR) Ventura County, and its affiliate Gold Coast Ambulance, is up in 2024, with two one-year extensions at the County’s option, if needed, to 2026.
“AMR Ventura County and Gold Coast Ambulance are proud to have provided our amazing community with more than 70 years of reliable, high-quality medical care and emergency transport services,” said Mike Sanders, regional director of AMR Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. “As with any long-term contract, we understand and respect the decision for the County to go out to bid — this ensures an equitable process.”

The Board of Supervisors has unanimously selected Dr. Sevet Johnson to serve as Interim County Executive Officer effective March 23, 2022. As part of this role, the Interim County Executive Officer will also be the Ex-Officio Clerk of the Board. The Board also unanimously agreed to conduct a nationwide recruitment for the permanent County Executive Officer. “Our Board would like to thank Dr. Johnson for stepping up during this time,” said Chair of the Board Carmen Ramirez. “We are confident in her ability to help lead as we begin a search for the next County Executive Officer.”

The Board of Supervisors has approved $12.7 million in additional funding for the County’s Business Assistance Grant program, totaling $70 million in financial assistance. Following an overwhelming response of 1,455 applications in the fourth round of the program, the additional funds will allow nearly 1,100 eligible businesses and nonprofits to receive grants. The Board also authorized $3.7 million in unused program funds from the third round of grants to supplement funding to all eligible businesses and organizations in the fourth round. At the completion of the fourth round, over 7,000 businesses will have received $10,000 in grant funding.

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a $2.55 billion balanced Budget for FY 2021-2022 at Monday’s Budget Hearing. “This budget, at the direction of the Board, represents the culmination of over six months of work with departments, the fiscal team, the Board and community. What results is a real focus on pandemic recovery, both the health and economic impacts,” said County Executive Officer Mike Powers. “The budget also supports sustaining critical core services of health, social and safety services, streets and roads, investment in capital as well as IT infrastructure. At the same time, it enhances what the Board has identified as a priority including public health, mental health, services for individuals facing homelessness and climate action.”
