Ventura County Arts Council — Prop. 28 explained; local support for arts education; art contest for kids!

Greetings! Fall is in full swing and next month brings Election Day. Have you heard about Proposition 28 and arts education funding in California schools? We’ve provided an overview below if you’d like to learn more about its potential impact.

Speaking of arts education funding, we hope you’ll take a moment to watch the video below about The Children’s Workshop, an Oxnard nonprofit led by Armando Lopez, that has generously provided support to our Artists in the Classroom program. They are an awesome example of how funding for arts education comes not only from state budgets, but also from people in our community who care about local students.

This arts center will be administered by Ventura County Arts Council for the benefit of our whole community. It will be a vibrant space for artists, arts organizations and residents to collaborate and enjoy exhibitions, workshops and events!

Ventura County Arts Council — CALLS TO ARTISTS: Don’t Miss these Exhibition Opportunities!

Ventura County Arts Council invites you to submit proposals for art to be displayed in Ventura storefront windows.

What does a face reveal? What might it hide? How has masking affected our relationships? Portraiture explores identity through the lens of its time. Our long period of masking has unleashed new feelings and habits. Do we see ourselves and each other in new ways? “UNmasking” will take a look at portraiture now and what it can express representationally or abstractly.

Selected artists will conceive of each window as a diorama, a space in which an installation of accumulation, sculptural pieces, work in any medium uses the three-dimensional space dynamically.

Each window will be dedicated to a unified installation created by a single artist, or created as a collaborative project by more than one artist. The location of the exhibition space is on a busy section of Victoria Ave. at Moon Dr. in Ventura.

spend this money TOMORROW!

Do you have time to submit a well-written comment to the supervisors (EMAIL HERE by 12 noon TODAY!) or provide verbal comment at their meeting on tomorrow (REGISTER HERE)? The meeting is virtual and begins at 8:30 a.m.

Ventura County Arts Council — Help us advocate for ARP funds for artists & arts orgs!

Will you join us in advocating for county federal American Rescue Plan funds to be allocated for arts and culture?

We have crafted a letter to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors in support of this goal, and we are gathering signatures from individuals and organizations who have been impacted, or who support and stand with us in advocating for these funds. We are also asking for stories of economic loss due to the pandemic, some of which we intend to use in making our case to local officials.

You can help advocate with us by visiting our website to preview the letter and fill out a brief survey to indicate your support. Please forward this message and link to other artists or arts organizations who may be interested. We appreciate your participation!

Ventura County Arts Council — What’s New in 2021

Greetings and Happy New Year! We are happy to share that in December 2020, with support from the California Arts Council, we were able to distribute CARES funds to 17 local arts and culture organizations who represent and serve communities of color disproportionately affected by COVID-19.

This money was allocated from a portion of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) funds initially given to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) who granted a portion of the dollars to the California Arts Council to be distributed by their State and Local Partners. As CAC’s Ventura County SLP, we were able to help the following groups with support for core operations and special projects:
Ballet Folklorico Bell Arts
Ballet Folklorico Cielito Lindo de Simi Valley
Bell Arts Factory
Club Flor Bonita
The CreArtive Freedom Family
Danza Tonantzin
Dr. Manuel M. Lopez Community Garden
Fork Space
Get Loud Movement
Inlakech Cultural Arts Center
Our Town. Our Children.
Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation
Redbird

Oct. 22 — Ventura County Arts Council Invitation to In-Person Awards Ceremony

About the Show Theme
Value can be an estimate of the monetary worth of something or the relative degree of lightness or darkness of a particular color. Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions. “Value” is an opportunity for artists to consider these questions: What do you value? How do you consider value in creating your pieces? Do you have artwork that explores tonal range?

Ventura County Arts Council — Call to Artists: Ventura County Artist Showcase

You are invited to submit proposals for our ongoing Artist Showcase in the storefront windows at Victoria Ave. and Moon Dr. in Ventura. Each of four storefront windows will be dedicated to a unified installation created by a single artist or created as a collaborative project by more than one artist.

2020 was a year of challenge, grief, longing, questioning, reflection and, hopefully, insight. To kick off the new year, we are looking for artwork that represents your experience of this time. Selected artists will conceive of each window as a diorama, a space in which an installation of accumulation, sculptural pieces, work in any medium uses the three-dimensional space dynamically.
