Volunteers in Ventura County Help Those with Low-Moderate Incomes File for Available Tax Credits Through VITA Program

VENTURA — Tax season is upon us and low- to moderate-income Ventura County residents are encouraged to take advantage of ways to put more money back in their pocket with the help of United Way of Ventura County’s (UWVC) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). 

Throughout March to April 30, 2024, trained VITA volunteer tax preparers will help working families and individuals file their state and federal tax return and access the tax credits to which they are eligible. Households earning up to $67,000 are eligible to use the free services.

Mitchel Sloan Appointed Interim President & CEO for United Way of Ventura County and Selected for Worldwide Leadership Program

United Way of Ventura County (UWVC) announced today that Mitchel Sloan has been appointed Interim President & CEO. Sloan will serve in this role as the UWVC Board of Directors identify the organization’s next leader.  

Since 2019, Sloan has served as the Vice President of Resource Development and Marketing, advancing United Way’s awareness, community outreach, and philanthropic efforts. He’s helped lead several local initiatives, including Women United, which provides support for single mothers by empowering them through financial capability and education, and United to End Homelessness Ventura County, which supports individuals, families, seniors, and veterans experiencing homelessness.

United Way announces departure of President & CEO Eric Harrison to lead United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut

United Way of Ventura County (UWVC) announced (Dec. 21) that President and CEO Eric Harrison has notified the Board of Directors of his decision to resign from his role in order to accept the CEO position with United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut.

Harrison joined UWVC in December 2014. He will continue to serve Ventura County in his current role through mid-February 2022. The UWVC Board of Directors are in the process of taking the next steps to identify a successor.
