Through May 27 — Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) will present DIS CONNECTION

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) will present DIS CONNECTION, a program of visual and performing art in the Blackboard Gallery through May 27. The exhibition has been Curated by SCIART Artist-in-Residence Elana Kundell, featuring the work of eight contemporary female artists who have a family history of displacement by global events. The exhibition includes paintings, installation artworks, photography and sculpture responding to the personal impact of losing one’s home and community, one of the most consequential topics of our time.

Studio Channel Islands Art Center Announces 2022 Medici Award Honoree

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) has announced Rachel Resnik Miles as the recipient of the 2022 Medici Award, the highest recognition presented by SCIART. Each year SCIART’s board of directors selects an honoree whose support has been exceptional and transformative for the organization. This year’s award will be presented as part of the annual Art à la Mode gala, Oct. 8, at the Los Posas Country Club, Camarillo. Art à la Mode celebrates the creative community of Studio Channel Islands and those who champion the arts in our county. Feb. 5 — SCIART Invites the Public to its First 2022 Exhibition, Emergence

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) opens its first 2022 exhibition, Emergence, Feb. 5, featuring local emerging artists Maria Laura Hendrix and Andy Lepe, both resident artists at SCIART. The exhibition will also include a curated selection of “emerging artists” work in all visual media by juniors, seniors and recent graduates from local universities. The exhibition takes place in SCIART’s Blackboard Gallery located at 2222 E. Ventura Blvd. in Camarillo and is free to attend.

March 19 — SCIART Presents 2022 Concert in the Gallery Series

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) presents its first 2022 Concert in the Gallery, Emergence, March 19, featuring emerging musicians tenor Matthew Miles and soprano Natalie Buickians, in collaboration with world-renowned pianist, Armen Guzelimian and internationally recognized cellist Yoshika Masuda.

May 7 — SCIART Artists Unite in Support of Ukraine Refugees with ‘Shelter Fundraiser’

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) invites the public to the Shelter art fundraiser, noon to 6 pm, May 7, in support of Ukrainian refugees. SCIART’s Members Gallery is currently showing Displacement and Resilience, a very special exhibition curated by artist Elana Kundell in response to the current war in Ukraine. This exhibition explores how artists are transforming trauma and the generational impacts of displacement through their creative process. 

Through May 28 — Studio Channel Islands to present ‘Out of Many, One’

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) presents Out of Many, One, opening April 2 and on display through May 28. In this exhibition artists use their collective voices to invoke feelings such as fear, joy and frustration to explore and celebrate our differences.

June 4 — SCIART Presents Echoes of Nature

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) presents Echoes of Nature, a contemporary Chinese art exhibition opening on Saturday, June 4, beginning at noon with a full schedule of activities throughout the day. Events will take place at Studio Channel Islands Art Center located at 2222 E. Ventura Blvd, Camarillo.

Aug. 28 — Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) announces upcoming Artist Talk events

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) Artist Talk series will present “Perceive Me” sculpture panel discussion, Saturday, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Aug. 28. Featuring artist sculptors Debbie Korbel, Tanya Ragir, Susan Amorde and Jess Standlea, the panel will discuss the creative process behind the three-dimensional work within the “Perceive Me” exhibition.

Sept. 18 — Rescheduled from Sept. 4 — SCIART Presents Making/Giving Artist Talk

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) Artist Talk series will present the Making/Giving virtual artist talk, Saturday, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Sept. 18. Featuring artists Daggi Wallace, Nurit Avesar, and Janet Milhomme, this talk will consider the parallels between making art and the giving of gifts. This Artist Talk will be an online event. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo.

Oct. 2 — Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) to present ‘The Next Big Thing Juror Talk with Peter Mays’

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) invites the community to The Next Big Thing Juror Talk with Peter Mays on Saturday, 4:30 p.m. (doors will open at 4:00 p.m.), Oct. 2.

Mays, executive director of the Los Angeles Art Association, will discuss the pieces in the exhibition, explain the selections he made, and announce the winners. This talk will be in-person at the Blackboard Gallery, 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo. Tickets can be purchased at https://bit.ly/NBTJurorTalk. Admission is free for members; $10 for non-members. Submissions for the Next Big Thing Juried Exhibition close Aug. 30.

Dec. 4-5 — Holiday Art Market Presented by SCIART

Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) invites the community to the 2021 Holiday Art Market on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 4, and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 5.

Enjoy unique gift shopping this holiday season for your family and friends while browsing through 40 professional artists studios and additional guest vendors! There will be free activities for kids, delicious food and treats available for purchase, and craft beer and wine. This market will be held at 2222 E.
