First Amendment Coalition represents Buen Vecino in lawsuit for public records about high-profile immigration raids in Ventura County

SAN RAFAEL — On behalf of nonprofit community organization Buen Vecino (in Simi Valley), the First Amendment Coalition, with attorneys Gregory Pleasants and Shaffy Moeel, filed a Public Records Act lawsuit against Ventura County and its sheriff to compel disclosure of video footage showing what deputy sheriffs did at a controversial immigration enforcement operation.

Signups for YMCA After School Child Care Programs Underway For 2025-26 School Year

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — YMCA branches serving the Conejo Valley/Las Virgenes, Simi Valley and Moorpark areas are registering students in TK through fifth grade for after-school child care programs for the coming 2025-26 school year

Childcare is available on school days, pupil-free days and minimum days. Camp programs are held during Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks and any school furlough days. Each program provides a structured environment that includes homework time, arts and crafts, sports and science. All childcare staff are state-licensed and CPR and first aid certified.

Registration is open for free YMCA Safety Around Water Classes

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Registration is open for the YMCA’s Safety Around Water (SAW) classes. The free, seven-session program provides water safety and basic swimming skills to youth and adults ages 5 and older with little or no water experience.

Weekly classes run from June 16 through August 9. Lessons are held during the late afternoon and early evening. SAW classes take place in the Simi Valley Family YMCA (3200 Cochran Street) and Yarrow Family YMCA (31105 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Westlake Village) indoor swimming pools.

Registration Open For Conejo/Simi Valley YMCA’s Model United Nations Middle Schoolers Program

Model United Nations, which runs through May 4, brings students together with their peers from across California to discuss international issues, discover other cultures, develop life-enhancing skills and make new friends

The Yarrow Family YMCA delegation meets on Tuesdays from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (31105 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Westlake Village). The Simi Valley Family YMCA delegation meets on Tuesdays from 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (3200 Cochran Street, Simi Valley). Delegates should bring a laptop or tablet to each meeting.

YMCA Spring Break Camps For Simi and Conejo Valley Students

The Southeast Ventura County YMCA is hosting camps during spring break for students in the Simi and Conejo valleys. The Simi Valley Family YMCA camp is March 28 through April 1 and the Yarrow Family YMCA camp (serving Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills students), is April 18 through April 22. Camp is scheduled to coincide with local school district spring breaks.

Simi Valley camps will be at Atherwood Elementary School (2350 E. Greensward St., Simi Valley) and White Oak Elementary School (2201 Alscot Ave., Simi Valley). Spring break camp in the Conejo Valley will be at Willow Elementary School (29026 Laro Dr., Agoura Hills).
