“The importance of ensuring our law enforcement and public safety entities in Ventura County have access to high-quality, reliable communications equipment cannot be overstated,” said Congresswoman Julia Brownley. “Not only will this state-of-the-art communication system facilitate better communication and coordination between agencies, but all of our cities and residents will benefit from streamlined services that will lower costs and redundancies. …

Rep. Julia Brownley — 3 Days To Go
Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, we are just a few days away from a potential government shutdown that has been engineered by the extreme right-wing. This comes after President Biden negotiated a bipartisan budget deal with Speaker McCarthy back in May to fund the government, making sure the United States did not default on its financial obligations and protecting our economy from disaster. Both the Senate and the House passed this bipartisan deal.
Speaker McCarthy has not brought this deal to the floor. Now, a small faction of extremists are holding our government hostage and blocking the passage of crucial funding bills. If these extremists continue to be unyielding and proceed with a government shutdown, they are jeopardizing the livelihoods of millions of Americans, jeopardizing the overall economy, and threatening our national security.
Congress cannot let these extremists thrust our economy into chaos, plunge millions of Americans into unemployment and poverty, and deprive children and our most vulnerable populations of vital services and resources. With the deadline to avoid a government shutdown rapidly approaching, I recently joined my colleagues from the New Democrat Coalition in urging Speaker McCarthy to reject the extremists and focus on passing a bipartisan government funding bill to avert a self-inflicted economic catastrophe.
I am committed to preventing this avoidable crisis – and I will be working hard to ensure that Congress keeps our government open.
Bilingual report — Congresswoman Julia Brownley presents $640,000 to the County of Ventura for Oxnard Family Justice Center services and resources
On Monday, January 23, Congresswoman Julia Brownley presented a check for $640,000 to the County of Ventura to expand crime victim services and resources in Oxnard and Port Hueneme. The money will help with the expansion of the Ventura County Family Justice Center, a program administered by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, at a new location in Oxnard.
“This money will help to provide funds for bilingual victim advocates, help children who have been victims of domestic violence by funding youth programs, and it will provide onsite civil legal services at the Oxnard Family Justice Center,” said Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko. “Congresswoman Brownly has been a steadfast champion of public safety and crime victims. We thank her for continuing to standup for Ventura County’s most vulnerable.”
Rep. Julia Brownley — Celebrating 49 Years of Roe, Protecting Reproductive Health
(Jan. 22) marks 49 years since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Roe v. Wade, one of the court’s most consequential decisions of the 20th Century. This landmark decision ensures the right to legal and safe abortion and safeguards everyone’s right to bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom.
In Congress, I have worked to uphold the legal right to abortion established under Roe v. Wade and pass critical legislation like the Women’s Health Protection Act to defend and expand access to reproductive health care and protect the right to abortion for all Americans.
The threat to the right to choose is in danger as state legislatures throughout the country seek to diminish access to abortion, which exacerbate racial and economic injustices that harm women, families, and communities. Abortion coverage bans are discriminatory policies that target people of color and young people, who deserve agency over their own bodies. That is why I voted for the House Majority’s funding bill that provides increased funding for family planning and repeals the dangerous Hyde Amendment.
