OXNARD — In coordination with The Mexican Consulate in Oxnard, the Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) is pleased to announce its next visual arts exhibition, LUCHA LIBRE SIEMPRE, curated by Rafael Perea de la Cabada. This solo exhibition features work shot in the early 90’s, and continues to the present day, photographed throughout Southern California by photographer Bob DeBris. The show includes images of some of the greatest Mexican wrestling icons of the 1980’s and 90’s. The work also includes profiles of the new crop of luchadores both male and female in the Lucha Libre scene.

The Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) and El Concilio Family Services have teamed up for a COVID-19 Poster Art Contest which is accepting submissions now through March 3, 2023. There are two categories for entries: Grades K-5 and 6-12. Prizes will be offered for the top 3 winners in each category: 1st place – $500 cash prize, 2nd place – $200 cash prize, and 3rd place a $50 Target gift card. Prize Sponsor is The Children’s Workshop and funding is provided in part through the California VA58 Campaign.
COVID-19 took a devastating toll on our community and we’re still dealing with the virus and its impacts. We need your help to make sure our friends, family members, neighbors, and peers stay protected because the virus has not gone away.
Local youth in Grades K-12 are encouraged to create posters that remind people about COVID-19 safety and the importance of vaccines. Posters can show how COVID has affected students or their community. They can also be more general and encourage mask-wearing, getting the vaccine or getting boosted.
OXNARD — For the first time since the start of the pandemic, the Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) welcomes back RESCUECON, a one day event bringing creativity and community together to celebrate and facilitate animal rescue and adoption. The event is free and open to the public and will be held on Saturday, April 22 (Earth Day) from 10 am to 3 pm at the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center. RESCUECON is a convention like no other, where the human-animal bond takes center stage. Through animal adoptions and the arts, hands-on workshops, a kid’s area, talks by really amazing people, an artisan marketplace, and so much more, attendees will learn, play, explore, and, above all, refresh their relationship with animals… and each other.
The Sight + Sound Film Festival is accepting film submissions now through June 12 for its second annual event to be held September 30 – October 2, 2022 at select venues in Historic Downtown Oxnard. The event is a joint effort between OPAC, the Film, Television, and Electronic Media program at Oxnard College and Downtown Oxnard.
Filmmakers of all levels may submit works in the following categories: Narrative Features and Shorts, Documentary Features and Shorts, Romantic Comedy, Dramatic, Thriller/Sci-Fi, Films produced in Oxnard/Ventura County and by local filmmakers, Student films, Music Videos, ASMR, and Animations.

The event features 3-stages spotlighting local and regional talent covering a wide range of genres, from the 70’s power pop/punk sound of Ventura’s TV Party and the sludgy indie punk of Romper to Los Hurricanes, serving up Chicano Soul from Orange County, and the Afro-centric house music of DJ Legacy.

The event is in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month which recognizes the contributions and influences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. OPAC’s event amplifies the narratives of our AAPI community by spotlighting local and international talent, entrepreneurs, healers, and grassroots leaders. Guests will enjoy a headlining performance by legendary master taiko drummer Kenny Endo and his Ensemble.
The Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) is closing out its two-year program, Close to Home: A Community Conversation Spotlighting the People, Places and Perspectives Surrounding Homelessness, with a night of storytelling. The public is invited to OPAC on Friday, September 23, 2022 from 6 to 8 pm for a free outdoor performance called Stories from the Street.
Directed by Juliana Acosta, Stories from the Street profiles the experiences of unsheltered residents in Ventura County as told to and transcribed by writer Craig Rosen. The presentation includes a mix of firsthand accounts portrayed by local actors as well as those with lived experience.
