“In 1969, the devastating images of a massive oil spill from an oil platform off Santa Barbara’s coast galvanized California into action and caught the attention of the rest of the nation, including Senator Gaylord Nelson, founder of Earth Day, who visited Santa Barbara shortly after the spill. Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCASB) — Art and Community Healing Open House (Feb. 9) and more events

As we recover as a community from the major fires in LA, and as we remember the Thomas Fire and the Montecito Debris Flow, MCASB in partnership with Paseo Nuevo, and many organizations and individuals, will host a free intergenerational and family-friendly event on the Arts Terrace and throughout Paseo Nuevo on Sunday, February 9th from 11 am-2 pm. There will be opportunities to come together as a community around the healing power of art, art making, and learning about how we can all participate in building our future together.

Event-goers will have the opportunity to take part in many different activities, highlights include a guided painting workshop, art kit making stations, and Collecting Art to Change Lives: Art Collecting 101 – a conversation with arts industry leaders with insights and encouragement for collecting art now to support our LA arts community as it heals and rebuilds.

Feb. 21 — Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCASB) — Invitation > Nobody Owns The Beach Pop Up – The Culver Hotel

On the occasion of the Frieze Art Fair in Los Angeles and the many events of the accompanying art week, the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara presents a pop up of merchandise featuring artwork by David Horvitz. Nobody Owns The Beach celebrates the activist and community efforts in California to ensure access for all to our beautiful beaches. The artwork was originally commissioned for the 2015 MCASB exhibition Requiem for the Bibliophile.

We strongly encourage our communities to join us in Los Angeles next week – showing up, seeing and collecting art right now – is a critical way to support the arts community as it heals and rebuilds.
