Friendship Center — Matching memories

As the season of giving approaches, we at Friendship Center are excited to announce the launch of our Matching Memories campaign, a special initiative to raise funds for our nonprofit and help continue the meaningful work we do each day.

At Friendship Center, we strive to be a place where older adults with dementia feel safe, included, and supported, while also having fun and making lasting memories. For our members, it’s not just about the activities—it’s about creating an environment where they can continue to enjoy the things they once loved and also make new memories to cherish.

Friendship Center — The Friendly Finch Fall 2024

In recent months, Friendship Center has begun to significantly expand our programs as a result of the generous support from our community. This support has empowered us to begin developing a comprehensive Dementia Caregiver Resource Hub, offering the Herencia Latina program for Spanish-speaking adults, and continue enhancing our diverse array of life enrichment activities—all tailored to meet the unique needs and interests of our members.

Friendship Center Adult Day Services — Party with a Purpose (Nov. 1)

This year’s spooky special Wine Down is sure to be a great time, but we host this event for a reason that goes beyond fun and celebration—it’s about the people we care for and the families who count on us. You never know when someone you love — a spouse, parent, a grandparent, a friend — might need the warmth and support that Friendship Center uniquely offers. …

By supporting Wine Down, you’re helping us continue answering our WHY with professionalism, compassion, and respect. You’re helping families breathe a little easier, and giving older adults the chance to feel seen, heard, and cherished.

Friendship Center Spring Campaign

Every day, Friendship Center has the privilege of welcoming individuals who hold a multitude of roles in your lives – mothers, fathers, spouses, grandparents, former teachers or coaches, and dear friends– into our charming space. These individuals, our “roses,” grace our day program activities with their presence, enriching our days with their wisdom, humor and hugs. Frank, can you imagine the joy of spending over 120 hours a month in the company of such cherished companions?!

The time spent with our program members, which also serves as a much needed respite break for their caregivers, is not only necessary to their wellbeing but it is also an opportunity for us to nurture the flourishing garden that is Friendship Center. Within our beautiful Eucalyptus Lane courtyard, amidst laughter and shared moments, joy takes root and blossoms. Even in the face of some of life’s greatest challenges, Friendship Center remains a sanctuary where joy continues to thrive.

Feb. 3 — Friendship Center — Save the Date & Secure Your Rank for the Festival of Hearts

The Festival of Hearts, Friendship Center’s premier annual fundraiser now in its 25th year, celebrates caregivers and raises funds for low-income seniors living with dementia to enjoy our specialized programs that uniquely provide social, physical and cognitive engagement.

Since the first Festival of Hearts in 2000, the heart and soul of the event has been the heart-art sold at silent auction, and created by local artists and celebrities, including Jeff Bridges, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tony Askew and Rod Lathim. Provided with a blank three-dimensional papier-mâché heart, the imaginative “heart-ists” paint, sculpt, and decorate in various ways to create their unique works.

Dear Friends & Supporters,

You made my heart go pitter patter!! The 24th Festival of Hearts held at the Rosewood Miramar Beach Resort in February was by far the most successful… in part due to your participation!!! Thank you for putting your “heart and soul” into making this event fly by sponsoring, making donations, bidding on live auction items and heart art, purchasing tickets… and just showing up! A shout out to the amazing events committee, board of directors, staff, “heart wrangler” Sharon Morrow, and many volunteers. Fundraising events support our operations and our seniors and families who matter most to us. Below is a brief video produced by David Harlow, our videographer extraordinaire, and some testimonials that come from the heart!

January/February 2023 Friendly Finch Friendship Center’s Bi-Monthly Newsletter

Dear Families & Friends,

As we embrace the new year… I always choose a word to set my intentions and expectations for the year ahead, in 2023 my word is “Imagine.” Not just because I love the Beatles and John Lennon, however “Imagine” is a reflection on 2022 and hopes for the year 2023.

“Imagine all the people…”
I have high hopes for this new year. 2023 is the year of reconnection and to “come together” after all these difficult times due to the pandemic. I’m so thrilled that once again our Festival of Hearts will be an “in person” event after a two-year hiatus. I believe there have been missed opportunities and we’re hungry for this reconnection. It seems as though we used to ‘meet-up’ more often and we were always going from point A to B. As crazy as this may sound I kind of miss it. We are back in the world, needing to reconnect. This year I believe is the time to reassess how we do that and what type of world we truly want to be part of.

November/December 2022 Friendly Finch Friendship Center’s Bi-Monthly Newsletter

During the holiday season our families and friends often ask how they can show their appreciation for the care, compassion and commitment of our exceptional staff.

Since our staff cannot take contributions directly, we have established a holiday fund which gives you an opportunity to thank the staff by making a monetary contribution.

We accept voluntary contributions all year long, yet most people think of giving during the holiday season. If you would like to contribute, please send a check with a note on the memo line: “Friendship Center Holiday Fund.” Contributions by check, or by cash, can be dropped off at the center or mailed to us by December 31st. Your gift is distributed in the New Year with recognition of all families and friends who have contributed.

Friendship Center — A Message From Heidi Holly — Fall Appeal 2022

We thank you for contributing to their quality of life in this most meaningful way.

July/August 2022 Friendly Finch Friendship Center’s Bi-Monthly Newsletter

It has been a journey from humble beginnings in a small church on Cota Street serving a few seniors, to expanding to a much larger and beautiful space in Montecito, and now serving several hundreds of seniors and family caregivers over the years.

We navigated the unexpected challenge of the past couple of years, managing through the pandemic. We have emerged stronger and more resilient than ever, recognizing, as we have countless times throughout the past 45 years, that our strength comes from the community and what we do!

So much of our success is thanks to you – board members, volunteers, foundations, businesses, our dedicated staff, and community supporters who have built a safety-net to support seniors and their family caregivers whereby some have experienced isolation, depression, and anxiety during these most challenging times.

Friendship Center’s SPRING CAMPAIGN Reminder

Here at Friendship Center, we have stood by our members and really reached out to meet their needs in every way possible, through all the changes and uncertainty of the pandemic. This clear purpose and agility is something we are very proud of as a longstanding nonprofit organization serving vulnerable elders of our Santa Barbara community. It is a great JOY to share that we have restored full time program services, and are embracing our membership in full bloom!
