July 13 — 2nd Annual Central Coast Korean War Veteran Meetup to be held in SLO

Attention Central Coast Korean War Era Veterans (and their supporters):

If you have not already received word, we are sending a reminder that the 2nd Annual Central Coast Korean War Veteran MeetCentral Coast Veterans Memorial Museumup will be taking place on Saturday, July 13th at 10:00 am. 

The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum is inviting those who served during the Korean War Era to gather together for coffee, pastries, camaraderie, and lunch on Saturday, July 13th, from 10am – 12:30 pm at the SLO Vets Hall.

This event is hosted by the Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum with generous support from the American Legion Post 66, The Gary Sinise Foundation, Coastal Peaks Coffee, American Legion Auxiliary Post 432, and others.

July 25 — Free Author Talk in SLO – WWII History with Marie Silva Vallejo, ‘Dauntless: 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments, U.S. Army’

Join us in welcoming WWII historian and author, Marie Silva Vallejo for a FREE Author Talk on her book “Dauntless” on July 25th at the SLO Vets Hall, located at 801 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo, 93401.

Vallejo’s father served in the 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments in the U.S. Army and the First Reconnaissance Battalion created by President Roosevelt. These units trained at military camps across the Central Coast of California, including Camp San Luis Obispo.

Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum (CCVMM) Recognized by the US Library of Congress at October Dinner

The Central Coast Veterans Museum was recognized at the dinner by the US Library of Congress (LOC) as a top contributor to the LOC Veterans History Project. The Museum, located at 801 Grand Avenue, in San Luis Obispo,  was honored as the designated site on the Central Coast of California for veterans to record their oral histories as part of this nationwide project documenting the oral histories of America’s veterans, preserving the first person accounts of the men and women who have served our country, and civilians who worked in support roles to our armed forces during times of conflict.
