June 21 — Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum to present History Talk with Guest Speaker, Erik Brun

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the War Department moved to mobilize Filipino men living in the United States who had been barred from service by law, despite a forty year history of Philippine Scout service in the Army. On December 21, 1941, the United States Congress passed the Filipino Naturalization Bill, allowing a Filipino combat unit to be formed.

Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum ‘Call to Duty’ February 2023

Hello friends and supporters!

As you might have heard, we had a major setback with the museum flood disaster in early January. It was quite a shocking start to the new year, to discover standing water across the entire museum and downstairs floors, and widespread water damage in storage closets, the armory, the library, and our museum office.

Despite this bump in the road, we will persevere. I am happy to report we are getting back on track and will be opening by February 15th.  Our volunteers have been going above and beyond throughout the month of January and we are indebted to their many hours of extra service and efforts outside their normal volunteer duties. I am proud of and grateful for each of our volunteers who have been helping out to get things cleaned, fixed and ready to open once again (a special thank you to the non-staff folks who graciously joined in to help).

July 27 — Inviting Central Coast Korean War Veterans (and loved ones)

Dear Korean War Veterans (and their loved ones),
We are inviting our Central Coast Veterans who served during the Korean War Era to join us on July 27th from 9:30 am – 11:30 am at the Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum in San Luis Obispo. In addition to good coffee sponsored by Coastal Peaks Roasters (local and veteran owned), breakfast treats, and conversation, we are offering the opportunity to sit for a free professional portrait photo to those who attend.

Thursday, July 27th, 2023, marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement. Some refer to it as the ‘Forgotten War’ but for those who served, their families, and all Americans, it should always be remembered.  Our museum’s mission is to honor our veterans from past and present with emphasis on those from the Central Coast of California.
