FireAid donates $75,000 to California Strong to distribute to Palisades and Eaton fire victims

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — FireAid donated $75,000 to California Strong, powered by the Southeast Ventura County YMCA (SEVC YMCA), to distribute to families affected by the Palisades and Eaton fires. Seventy-five fire victims who had previously filled out relief applications and were vetted received the funds.

The FireAid January 30 benefit concert in Inglewood provided $50 million in immediate relief assistance to more than 120 nonprofit organizations that distributed the funds to over 150,000 fire victims. The California Strong/SEVC YMCA donation is part of a second distribution phase that focuses on long-term recovery.

Southeast Ventura County YMCA and California Strong Will Provide Essential Supplies To Fire Victims – Jan. 18 at Proactive Sports Performance

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — California Strong, Southeast Ventura County YMCA, in partnership with Proactive Sports Performance, will provide essential supplies to Los Angeles wildfire victims during an event on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Proactive Sports Performance (31425 Agoura Rd, Westlake Village).

Available items will include new clothing, toiletries, bedding, baby and toddler supplies, pet supplies, children’s toys and games, shoes and local business gift cards.

“The Southeast Ventura County YMCA has been providing support through its program California Strong to natural disaster victims since the Woolsey Fire in 2018,” says Ronnie Stone, the YMCA’spresident and CEO. “In December, we provided funds to those impacted by the Mountain Fire in Camarillo.”

Southeast Ventura County YMCA’s California Strong Distributes $152,000 to Mountain Fire Victims

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — California Strong, founded after the 2018 California wildfires and Borderline Shooting by the Southeast Ventura County YMCA, distributed $152,000 in immediate support to those who lost their homes in the recent Mountain Fire. Checks were handed out on December 11 at the Yarrow Family YMCA in Westlake Village.

Fire victims filled out a needs assessment form prepared by the Ventura County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VC VOAD). The VC VOAD reviewed the applications and selected funding recipients. Those who couldn’t attend the December 11 distribution, can stop by the Yarrow Family YMCA (31105 E Thousand Oaks Blvd.) during business hours and pick up their checks.

California Strong Accepting Applications For Financial Assistance By Those Impacted By Mountain Fire

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — California Strong, founded by the Southeast Ventura County YMCA and professional athletes after the 2018 California wildfires, and dedicated to providing immediate financial support to victims whenever a disaster strikes in the state, is accepting applications for assistance from those impacted by the Mountain Fire. The first round of funding is in early December.

California Strong Distributes Third Round of Grant Money to Woolsey Fire Victims

Nearly 2 1/2 years after the Woolsey Fire destroyed hundreds of homes in Southern California, many families are still impacted by the fire. On March 2, over $330,000 in gift cards was distributed to 88 families as they continue to recover from the fire. The funds were granted to the Southeast Ventura County YMCA by the Ventura County Community Foundation and distributed by California Strong, a program of the Y that provides financial support to victims after disasters. The grant money was distributed at the Yarrow Family YMCA in Westlake Village.

“It was our hope to reconnect with our California Strong family who survived the Woolsey Fire in 2018 and to be supportive of their continued recovery,” says California Strong Director Mollie Vehling. “Hosting the drive-thru distribution was an incredible opportunity to not only share resources, but to share smiles, listening ears, positive energy and love. Their struggle over the past 2 years and 3 months has been hard, but this was a happy day.”

California Strong’s next major fundraiser for California residents impacted by natural disasters and tragic events over the past few years is the drive-in showing of Major League on Saturday, May 22. Special contributions and appearances will be made by the founders of California Strong, as well as stars of the film Charlie Sheen and Bob Uecker.

Since its conception in 2018, California Strong has been focused on helping Californians struggling with their finances and livelihoods due to an array of disasters that have struck the state. The organization has raised over $2.6 Million and given grants to more than 1,400 families.
