Susan A. Andrzejewski appointed interim president of California State University Channel Islands

SANTA BARBARA — California State University (CSU) Chancellor Mildred García has appointed Susan A. Andrzejewski to serve as California State University Channel Islands’ interim president. Andrzejewski, who currently serves as the university’s dean of the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics, will begin her new appointment on August 4, 2025. 

“Dr. Andrzejewski is an innovative and collaborative leader, recognized for advancing student success through data-informed initiatives, experiential learning and regional partnerships,” said Chancellor García. “In addition, she has been a trusted and strategic partner to outgoing President Richard Yao, demonstrating impressive university-wide leadership and undeniable strategic acumen. With her strong connections to CSU Channel Islands and outstanding professional skills and personal qualities, Dr. Andrzejewski is the ideal person to lead the university through this time of transition.”  

CSUCI receives $6M in Hispanic-Serving Institution grants

U.S. Department of Education Thursday awarded CSU Channel Islands (CSUCI) more than $6 million in Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) grants to launch programs and expand services designed to increase the number of students, particularly Latinos, who enroll in and graduate from college and who successfully pursue careers in education.

CSUCI is receiving $3 million to implement the Caminos (Pathways) for Future Counselors, Psychologists, Teachers and Leaders project and $3 million for Project Student Outreach, Academics and Retention (SOAR) at CI. Under an HSI grant awarded to Oxnard College, CSUCI is also receiving $187,000 to hire a staff member dedicated to helping students who transfer from Oxnard College to CSUCI. This brings CSUCI’s total federal HSI grant funding to more than $42 million since 2010.

California State University Channel Islands Presidential Search Committee to Hold Virtual Open Forum on Oct. 12

The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees is beginning the search for a new president of California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) to succeed Erika D.  Beck, Ph.D., who became president of California State University, Northridge in January 2021.

The first meeting of the Trustees’ Committee for the Selection of the President will be held in a virtual open forum from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12. During this time, the committee will outline the search process and the community will be invited to share their preferred attributes of the next president of CSUCI. Please note that campus and community members wishing to speak during the virtual open forum and address the committee are required to register in advance, and the deadline to register is Monday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. Confirmed speakers will receive details about how to participate.

New CSUCCESS Initiative Will Enhance Equity and Student Achievement for CSU Students

The California State University (CSU) on July 12 announced the launch of the first phase of CSUCCESS (California State University Connectivity Contributing to Equity and Student Success), a bold initiative to enhance student achievement and create more equitable opportunities for the CSU community by providing industry-leading technology. As part of the initial phase which kicks off with the upcoming fall 2021 term at eight campuses, the CSU will offer an iPad Air, Apple Pencil and Apple Smart Keyboard Folio to all incoming first-year and new transfer students who register to participate in the initiative. Students will be provided with this iPad bundle for the entirety of their undergraduate experience at the CSU.

Cal State Apply Deadline Extended to Dec. 15

To better serve high school and community college students facing university admissions challenges caused by COVID-19, the California State University (CSU) will extend its fall 2021 priority application deadline to December 15, 2020. Students interested in attending any CSU campus can apply at the university’s application portal, Cal State Apply. Richard Yao Appointed Interim President of California State University Channel Islands

California State University (CSU) Chancellor Timothy P. White has appointed Richard Yao, Ph.D., to serve as interim president of California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI). Yao currently serves as CSUCI’s vice president for student affairs. Yao will assume the leadership of the university on January 11, 2021 with the departure of current CSUCI president Dr. Erika D. Beck, who will begin her new role as president of California State University, Northridge. Yao, who identifies as a Chinese Filipino American, becomes the first person of color to lead the campus.
