California Lutheran University professor earns top honors in international Choral Conductor Competition

THOUSAND OAKS — California Lutheran University’s Franco Basili placed third in the 4th Romano Gandolfi International Competition for Choral Conductors, his first international competition strictly focused on conducting. Choral directors from around the world participated in the biennial competition held in Parma, Italy. It aims to spread the passion for choral music and help rising conductors establish an international conducting career.

“It is definitely an honor for me,” said Basili, DMA, an assistant music professor at Cal Lutheran and the director of Choral Activities. “The other competitors were fantastic. It has been a bucket list item to do one of these competitions to meet other conductors and see what I can learn from them.”

The Center for Economics of Social Issues at Cal Lutheran has fully updated its database with the most recent available data. This essential resource provides support to researchers, policymakers, nonprofits and government agencies in gaining a better understanding of the economic and social environment of Ventura County. The database includes information at a state and national levels, as well as Ventura County across its cities and zip codes.

CLU School of Management releases short video on Watch and Explore ‘Demographic Profile of Undocumented Immigrants — Separating Myths From Realities’

The video aims to shed light on the truth about the lives of these undocumented immigrants and their communities, which have been unfairly targeted with misinformation. Understanding the demographic profiles of these communities is essential as it brings relevant issues to the forefront of our minds and helps dispel the myths spread to discredit them. Oxnard College to Host 2023 U.S. Latino GDP Report Event on April 17

OXNARD — Oxnard College and the Oxnard College Foundation are partnering with researchers at California Lutheran University (CLU) and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) to host an event on April 17, 2024, marking the publication of the annual U.S. Latino GDP Report. The report documents the economic contributions of the Latino community throughout the United States and identifies Latinos as major drivers of the pandemic recovery. The event will also feature never before released estimates of California’s Latino GDP. 

Nov. 7 — CLU to present ‘The Doctor in Spite of Himself’ Prescribes Laughter

THOUSAND OAKS —The French playwright Molière mocked bourgeois pretentiousness and the medical profession over 350 years ago in “The Doctor in Spite of Himself.” These timeless themes shine through in California Lutheran University’s Theatre and Dance Department student production. Premiering Nov. 7, the play runs through Nov. 17, with performances Thursday through Saturday evenings and a Sunday matinee. Performances are in the Black Box Studio Theatreon the Cal Lutheran campus.
