VENTURA COUNTY — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) is excited and honored to have received a grant of $10,000 from Sherwood Cares for the financial support needed to help serve youth in Ventura County through mentorship. The Sherwood Country Club Charitable Foundation is dedicated to serving children and families in our community by supporting programs that address educational, medical, nutritional, and safety needs. BBSVC serves youth through traditional 1-to-1 youth mentoring and provides opportunities where youth can serve as a mentor to their peers or take on leadership roles to help bring awareness to community issues.

BBSVC Sparkles at 14th Annual Champagne Luncheon Fundraiser
WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC), Ventura County’s premier youth mentoring nonprofit organization, held their 14th annual Bags, Bling & Bubbly champagne luncheon on Wednesday, November 9th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village.
This sparkling event started with an amazing boutique and silent auction, where a collection of designer and vintage handbags, jewelry, accessories, vacation getaways, restaurant outings, and more were available for purchase and bidding.
BBSVC Delivers BIG Fun at Emerald Prom!
VENTURA COUNTY — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) held the organization’s second-ever immersive experience event, Emerald Prom, on Saturday, August 26th at the Studio Channel Islands Art Center. The 1980’s themed experience was full of nostalgia, music, and high energy.
Live entertainment from the DORK Band played widely loved 80’s pop hits while two break dancers showed off their skills and got the party started. Guests were able to take prom photos and enter into the Prom Royalty campaign for the crown. Fun activities such as the penny raffle and a giant Pac-Man maze ensured a lot of laughs and prizes throughout the night. A DeLorean Time Machine and a 1982 Datsun 280zx were displayed for guests to interact and take photos with. Some BBSVC staff members dressed up as high school-themed “chaperones,” while guests arrived dressed in everything from classic prom attire to iconic MTV attire. An exclusive VIP room hosted by Don Atlas Hospitality provided extra perks like metallic fanny packs filled with goodies, a Starbucks coffee bar, and more.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC), a youth mentoring organization which serves over 1,000 youth in the agency’s mentoring programs annually, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the annual BBSVC Golf Classic on Monday, May 8. Through sponsorships, donations, auctions, and more, the tournament at Spanish Hills Club (Camarillo) raised over $150,000, with additional funds continuing to come in through the event’s active mobile auction platform. The Golf Classic raises the much-needed funds to help change the trajectory of youth facing adversity in Ventura County by creating lifelong mentoring friendships.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) – a youth mentoring non-profit serving Ventura County for over 50 years – has announced that Danica Selvaggio as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2023.
Selvaggio has been with BBSVC since 2014 and has served as the agency’s Vice President of Marketing and Vice President of Programs under the agency’s previous CEO of 34 years, Lynne West, before serving as Interim Chief Executive Officer for the 2022 calendar year. Selvaggio was instrumental in BBSVC obtaining the coveted Gold Standard Award for both 2021 and 2022, a designation by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America that celebrates programmatic and fiscal excellence determined by nationwide best practices.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) is seeking a philanthropically-minded Title Sponsor to help commemorate the 50th anniversary of the agency’s annual Golf Classic. BBSVC’s Golf Classic is the organization’s top-performing event, which delivers the funds necessary to support mentoring programs for over 1000 youth facing adversity in Ventura County.
This year’s tournament will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023. January is National Mentoring Month, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) is celebrating by recruiting mentors through Starbucks locations across the county for the 80 Littles on their waitlist.
All month long, QR codes placed at over 15 Starbucks locations will connect patrons to a video where a waiting Little shares what they hope to do once they are matched with a Big. These QR codes are displayed with an item representing a waiting Little’s interests – like a miniature bike to represent Madeline, who wants to ride bikes with her future Big Sister.

Big & Little Sisters of The Year 2022 for Ventura County and California Statewide, Karyn and Marcie, shared their story of their long and happy mentoring relationship while sharing photos from the lifetime of their match.
All proceeds from the Bags, Bling & Bubbly champagne luncheon went towards providing the financial support BBSVC needs to help serve youth in Ventura County schools and the greater community.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC)?is honored to announce the agency’s Bigs of the Year for 2022, a recognition awarded to the volunteer mentors who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to their “Littles” (youth mentees) and who have gone above and beyond in their efforts for the agency as well as the greater community. This year’s awardees are Kevin Gamboa and Karyn Hagy; Karyn is also the Big of the Year for California Statewide, a recognition that nominates her as Big of the Year for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
“Our agency is proud of every Big and Little, and their unique mentoring journeys,” says Danica Selvaggio, Interim CEO of BBSVC. “This year, we’re grateful for the opportunity to recognize Karyn and Kevin for the many ways they dedicate themselves to youth mentorship and to BBSVC as an agency. We also want to recognize the dedication of their Littles, Marcie and Dorian – it’s a special thing to see when a match grows into a bond that will last forever.”
BBSVC: CEO Lynne West announces retirement after 34 Years
After over 34 years as the Chief Executive Officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC), Lynne West has decided that the timing is right to retire from her role. Over her tenure, Ms. West has led the local agency as well as served as a Big Sisters to her Little, Juanita, for over a decade. She has also sat on state and national committees that have allowed her to use her voice for the betterment of the entire Big Brothers Big Sisters federation.
At the close of 2021, BBSVC is able to celebrate Ms. West’s retirement with the acknowledgement that the local agency will be recognized for achieving Gold Standard, a Big Brothers Big Sisters of America designation for BBBS agencies that go above and beyond best practice standards through youth mentorship.
