Agromin turns 1.25 million tons of organic waste into compost In 2025

OXNARD — Agromin, California’s largest organics recycler, composted more than 1.25 million tons of organic waste in 2025, a 250,000-ton increase from 2024.

The Oxnard-based company manages 21 processing and composting facilities throughout the state. Its finished products are used by farmers, commercial landscapers, residential customers, nonprofits, schools and state and local government agencies.

Because of state-mandatory organic waste recycling laws, California jurisdictions are enlisting the help of organic recyclers like Agromin to help turn their green waste into compost and mulch. Ten of those jurisdictions partnered with Agromin in 2025 to distribute finished compost and mulch products to residents through customized coupon programs.

City of Ojai offers free compost and mulch to residents through Agromin partnership

OJAI — The City of Ojai has partnered with Agromin, California’s largest organics recycler, to provide residents with free compost and mulch through a new coupon program.

The program helps the city comply with Senate Bill 1383’s greenhouse gas reduction requirements while offering residents high-quality soil amendments at no cost.

Residents can order bagged or bulk materials directly from Agromin at www.shop.agromin.com by selecting their products and entering the corresponding coupon code at checkout.

Pickup is available at Agromin (201 Kinetic Drive, Oxnard) or Aqua-Flo Ojai (1940 E Ojai Ave., Ojai). Delivery is available for a fee.

OXNARD — The cities of Oxnard and Ventura, along with the County of Ventura, enlisted the help of Agromin, California’s largest organics recycler and manufacturer of environmentally friendly soil products, to distribute 40 tons of compost and mulch to local schools during the last quarter of 2024. This distribution was coordinated by Ventura County Farm to School, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting environmental, agricultural and nutrition education.

Schools receiving compost and mulch for their school gardens included Haycox Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, Mesa High School, Oxnard High School, Rio Del Norte Elementary School, Rio Del Sol STEAM School, Rio Del Valle Middle School, Rio Real Elementary, Tierra Vista Elementary, and Sunset Elementary School.

Agromin To Recycle Thousands Of Christmas Trees After The Holidays

OXNARD — Once the holidays are over, Oxnard-based composter Agromin will receive thousands of Christmas trees collected by waste haulers. The trees will be composted into mulch and soil amendments for use by growers, landscapers and consumers.

To help make the tree collection process run smoother, tree owners are asked to cut up their Christmas trees so limbs and branches fit in their green waste recycling barrel. Waste haulers will collect the trees on regular waste pick-up days and deliver them to Agromin.

Agromin Receives $10 Million Grant From CalRecycle To Turn Food Waste And Yard Waste Into Compost

OXNARD — Agromin, California’s largest organic waste recycler, received a $10 million grant from CalRecycle’s Organics Grant Program to help communities turn more of their food waste and yard waste into compost.

CalRecycle’s Organics Grant Program is a statewide effort to expand and build new organic recycling facilities, allowing more waste to be recycled instead of ending up in landfills where it emits greenhouse gases.

“The grant funds will help Agromin move forward on expanding our composting facility at Limoneira Ranch in Santa Paula,” says Bill Camarillo, Agromin CEO. “We’re currently processing over one million tons of organic waste a year. Once the expansion is complete, we’ll be able to boost that amount to almost 300,000.”

Agromin Launches Online Retail Store

Agromin, an Oxnard-based company that produces organic soil products from locally recycled organic waste, has launched an online retail store so businesses and consumers can order Agromin compost, mulch and soil amendments online. Orders can be picked up at Agromin’s Oxnard headquarters (201 Kinetic Dr.) or delivered within a 60-mile radius of the Agromin location.

The online store is available to anyone who needs large quantities of compost, mulch and other organic soil products. Each product page on the Agromin website contains a calculator, which determines how much product is needed based on the size of a project.

Agromin Launches California Compost To Help Jurisdictions Comply With SB 1383’s Annual Organic Waste Procurement Requirements

Agromin, one of California’s largest organic waste recyclers, has launched California Compost (www.CaliforniaCompost.net) to help California jurisdictions assess, source and procure organic waste tonnage to comply with California SB 1383.

SB 1383 goes into effect January 1, 2022. It is designed to reduce state methane gas emissions to combat climate change by cutting down on the amount of organic waste deposited into landfills. According to CalRecycle, organic waste in landfills accounts for 20 percent of the state’s methane gas emissions. Methane gas is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Jurisdictions will now be required to procure and use organic waste products such as compost and mulch instead of sending its organic waste to landfills.

Agromin Names Cody Cain Head of Marketing and Business Development

Cain has spent over 15 years involved in environmental and energy projects for alternative fuels, solar, oil, natural gas, carbon credits and biogas. Futurology Life, a London-based company that follows innovations and breakthroughs in futuristic industries, has named Agromin as one of the 21 most innovative California-based biofuel companies and startups. It singled out Agromin for its manufacturing and supplying of eco-friendly soil, organic materials and biofuel products for farmers, landscapers and gardeners.

Agromin, headquartered in Oxnard, has been producing organic soil products from locally collected green waste for over 30 years. The company has operations throughout California. Its products are used on farms and in public and private landscaping. A few years ago, it began turning some of the green waste it receives into energy through anaerobic digestion and gasification.

Agromin and Plantel Nurseries Give Away Potting Soil & Vegetable Seedlings To SEEAG’s “Let’s Grow A Garden” Students & Families

Kids and their families participating in SEEAG’s “Let’s Grow A Garden” home garden program picked up donated potting soil from Agromin and vegetable seedling from Plantel Nurseries last week. More than 1,000 4-quart bags of potting soil and over 3,000 seedlings were distributed at Agromin’s Oxnard headquarters and at Ventura County elementary schools.

“Our busiest day was Earth Day,” says Caitlin Case, program director at Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG). “Thank you to Agromin and Plantel Nurseries for making the giveaway possible. Now, the students can get to work planting, caring for and harvesting their vegetables including kale, lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower.

For the second year, Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) is hosting its “Let’s Grow A Garden”–an at-home garden program for students in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties that teaches kids how to grow vegetables while learning healthy eating habits and proper nutrition.

“‘A garden gives kids a sense of accomplishment as they care for their plants and then harvest their crops. They also come to appreciate the role of our local farmers and the importance of eating healthy,” says Mary Maranville, SEEAG’s founder and CEO.
