VENTURA — The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community bike ride on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., as the City of Ventura celebrates the completion of the Ventura River Trail Improvements Project.
The upgrades, funded by a nearly $5 million Caltrans Clean California grant, include new pavement, wayfinding signage, improved accessibility, solar lighting, urban greening, and a new public art mural. These enhancements revitalize 1.8 miles of the highly used trail connecting Ventura to Ojai.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to creating a sustainable, vibrant community,” said Mayor Joe Schroeder. “By enhancing Ventura’s active transportation with improved infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, and incorporating public art, we’re not just beautifying our city—we’re fostering a healthier, more connected, and environmentally conscious Ventura.”
FATHOMWERX Summit is an inclusive two-day event filled with tested technology expositions, demonstrations, tours, innovators, networking, a keynote speaker, industry and Department of the Navy program representatives and stakeholders. With participation from ANTX Coastal Trident and Venture Ventura, the two-day event explores the intersections between industry and the Department of the Navy.

VENTURA — The Ventura Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location within the City of Ventura.
Carefully chosen based on data reflecting incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, DUI checkpoints play a pivotal role in enhancing public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.
Meeting highlights will include an update on the designation process for the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary, a presentation on restoration projects from the Refugio Beach Oil Spill Trustee Settlement, and an overview of the Ocean Protection Council’s 30×30 decision making framework.
THOUSAND OAKS — A Meet and Greet event for Thousand Oaks District 5 City Council Candidate Connie ‘Tie’ Gutierrez will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at Dover Hendrix Park, Picnic Table 2, Thousand Oaks.
VENTURA — The County of Ventura is proud to announce the groundbreaking Government and Disability Summit, the first statewide event of its kind. This historic conference, taking place September 24th – 27th, 2024 represents a significant milestone in the pursuit of more inclusive and accessible communities. The conference will bring together stakeholders from across the state to explore innovative solutions, share best practices, and foster collaboration towards a more inclusive future.
During the conference, participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and workshops covering a wide range of topics, including transportation, voting accessibility, emergency preparedness, collaboration, technology, and more. Through collaborative dialogues and shared experiences, attendees will work towards developing practical solutions to address access barriers and promote disability inclusion.
VENTURA —The annual Fall Prevention Forum – co-hosted by the Ventura County Elderly Fall Prevention Coalition and the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging – will return on Friday, September 27 at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.
The 2024 forum – “All Aboard the Fall Prevention Train” – will be held at CLU’s Gilbert Sports & Fitness Center (130 Overton Court).
The event is free to attend, but participants are urged to pre-register by filling out the registration form at www.vcaaa.org/falls, or by calling the VCAAA at 805-477-7300. The 2023 Fall Prevention Forum had a near-overflow crowd at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center.
Our final $10 Rabies Vaccination Clinic will be this Saturday, September 28th from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, at 10 W. Harbor Blvd. This is a cash-only clinic and no appointments are needed. Dogs and cats must be three (3) months or older and pet licensing will be available. Please ensure dogs are on-leash and that cats are in carriers.

SANTA MARIA — The Central Coast Small Farmer, Rancher, and Fisherfolk Forum is set to take place on October 25th and 26th at Allan Hancock College. To ensure broader accessibility and support for the Spanish-speaking small business community in the Oxnard area, the SCORE workshop will be presented in Spanish.
PORT HUENEME — The public is invited to attend a hybrid meeting of NOAA’s Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council in-person at the Port of Hueneme with an option for joining online. The event will take place on Nov. 15 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:35 p.m. Meeting highlights will include presentations on marine debris cleanups, Sunflower Star restoration projects, and DDT+ impacts of elasmobranchs in the Channel Islands.

VENTURA — The Ventura County Environmental Health Division (EHD) and the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) will host a workshop for homeowners with partially or fully destroyed properties who wish to participate in the County-led Debris Removal Program or the Private Debris Removal Program (Phase 2). Homeowners will receive a detailed overview of each program and step-by-step guidance on completing “Right-of-Entry” (ROE) forms that are required prior to the start of the County-led debris removal process.

Partnering with local organizations like VC CoLAB, the Ag Commissioner, UCCE, VCRCD, USDA-FSA, and Thomas Fire victims, and more we have initiated a series of webinars for the ag community to get updates, ask questions, and support eachother in a speedy recovery.
The topic is Cesar Chavez’s life and legacy in Ventura County. Parts of my talk will cover material from my next book project on the Chicano Movement in Ventura County after 1975, specifically farmworker struggles against camp evictions at Cabrillo Village in Saticoy and Rancho Sespe between Santa Paula and Fillmore, Barajas said.

The Board of Supervisors (Board) approved the Housing Bill Implementation Ordinance, Ordinance No. 5204, into the County’s Coastal Zoning Ordinance on February 13, 2024. VENTURA — Re-kindle the magic and add a little glee to the holiday season for the annual family fun Santa Paddle at 11 AM and Winter Wonderland & Holiday Marketplace at Ventura Harbor Village from Noon – 4 PM on Saturday, Dec. 21. This popular seaside playground hosts Santa both on the water and with his live reindeer throughout the course of the day.
First up, join Santa as he trades in his sleigh for a light workout on the paddle board as part of Ventura Harbor’s annual Santa Paddle 2024 from 11 AM – Noon. Visitors can join in on the water to ring in good holiday vibes with a scenic one-hour paddle procession from Ventura Harbor Village bay in front of Ventura Boat Rentals through the marina to the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center and back.

Labor Market Report for November 2023
The California Labor Market Information Division has released its November 2023 report, showing a slight step back by most of the major indicators, with a net gain of only 1,600 Nonfarm jobs and an uptick in the unemployment rate, from 4.5% in October to 4.7% in November.
Looking on the positive side, Ventura County continues to attract workers back into the labor force, now at 419,700, though still down 3,200 workers since prior to COVID. What’s helping draw workers back in is that we’ve gained 7,000 payroll jobs over the same period, since November 2019. Work opportunities are increasingly abundant, though apparently not attractive enough in wages, benefits and working conditions to attract the still several thousand retirees and others who exited during COVID.
