The exhibition showcases the vibrant creativity and talent of artists ages 60 and older within our community through an open call. While there is no specific theme, artwork is encouraged that explores the sharing of experiences, traditions, customs, and stories across generations.
SANTA BARBARA — In a world fraught with chaos and uncertainty, it can be hard to keep ourselves together emotionally as we navigate the pressures of life and work.
A half-day workshop on June 4 presented by licensed psychologist Relly Nadler will offer strategies and tools for mastering emotions and rising above chaos to achieve success in any situation. Titled Unleash your Performance Edge: Harnessing Emotional Intelligence for Success, the workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Workzones coworking space at 351 Paseo Nuevo in the Paseo Nuevo mall. Tickets start at $89 (or $79 for an additional attendee).
The public is encouraged to stop by anytime during the “Living Well, Caring Well” event and meet with many local providers who can assist with dementia-related issues, which may include adult day centers, adult protective services, the Alzheimer’s Association, caregiver resources, financial resources, in-home care, health insurance counseling and advocacy, legal and advanced planning, long-term care ombudsman, neurology, and public benefit programs.
CSCVVSB’s Hope Walk is a family-friendly, community event that promotes awareness and education about cancer while raising critical funds in support of CSCVVSB’s mission to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community. Music, health and wellness booths, refreshments, and kids’ activity tables will also be on-site.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Parents can have an evening out or spend a quiet evening at home while their kids have fun under supervised care at the Yarrow Family YMCA, Friday, June 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Y’s Parents’ Night Out is open to YMCA members and nonmembers.
The evening will have a Hawaiian theme. Kids will take part in a Hawaiian Luau Party featuring games, arts & crafts, a themed game room and free play. All activities are monitored/led by YMCA staff. Kids must be age 4 through 11 and be able to use the restroom on their own.

THOUSAND OAKS — The 68th Annual Conejo Valley Days (CVD) will feature 10 days of carnival rides, food and live entertainment. Dates are through June 30 (dark, June 24 and 25) at Conejo Creek Park South (23 Freeway/Janss Rd. exit) in Thousand Oaks.
Kastl Amusements will operate over 15 rides plus midway games for all ages at CVD as well as offer traditional fair and specialty foods. The Thousand Oaks Elks Club will be serving tri-tip sandwiches and other favorites.
This year, CVD is bringing back its “Whiskeroo Contest” Sunday, June 23 at 3:00 p.m. on the CVD Carnival Stage. To enter, call or text Steve Comstock, Whiskeroo Contest organizer, at 805-908-2248. VENTURA — The City of Ventura’s annual 4th of July Street Fair and Pushem-Pullem Parade returns on Thursday, July 4, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Ventura’s Downtown District.
The Pushem-Pullem Parade, presented by the Rotary Club of East Ventura, will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Main Street in front of Cemetery Memorial Park and continue into the Street Fair in Downtown Ventura. No registration is required.
This year’s Street Fair features artisan vendors, a car exhibit, live entertainment, a kids’ activity area, a corn hole zone, and more. Attendees can also enjoy Downtown’s local shops and outdoor dining as part of Main Street Moves.

SANTA PAULA — The PAC6 Painters return to the Santa Paula Art Museum with an all-new exhibition, “From Field to Frame: The PAC6 Show How It’s Done,” opening Saturday, March 9, 2024. PAC6 is a group of six women artists from Southern California who travel and paint together across the country. The artists are Linda Brown, Marian Fortunati, Nita Harper, Debra Holladay, Laura Wambsgans, and Sharon Weaver. Meet the artists during the exhibit premiere party on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission to the premiere event is $5.00 for SPAM members and $10.00 for non-members. VENTURA — Experience the artistry of Zapotec weaving firsthand in a dynamic showcase and demonstration presented in collaboration with MICOP.
The artist in charge of these weaving workshops is Eduardo Jiménez. Jiménez is from Teotitlán del Valle, a town of 5,000 inhabitants, twenty miles from the city of Oaxaca, famous for its ancestral weavings. Jiménez’s style of weaving is extremely popular in Teotitlán del Valle and is one that uses the pedal loom, which was incorporated by the Spanish kingdom during the conquest of the Americas to speed up its process.
From butterflies to bullfrogs to bobcats, Oak Woodland habitats support thousands of animal species all over California. Inhabitants might find shelter in the open grasslands between trees, scattered shrubs, fallen logs, streams, and tree canopies. The wonders of this important habitat – its creatures, colors, and lines of the land – all inspire Julia Laraway’s collection of fabric collages and quilts featuring flora and fauna of the coastal oak woodland.

SANTA BARBARA — The Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s (SBMA) exhibition Made by Hand/Born Digital features 12 artworks and 9 artistswho use brushes, AI, paint, 3D printers, scissors, magazines printed on paper, digital looms, potter’s wheels, Photoshop and Apple Photo. By continuing to craft ceramics, paintings, and textiles by hand and also using the latest digital tools, many of the artists in the exhibition blur a distinction between the handmade and digital.
Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of a thorough shoulder exam, what to expect during the exam, and various treatments available for shoulder issues.

VENTURA — The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community bike ride on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., as the City of Ventura celebrates the completion of the Ventura River Trail Improvements Project.
The upgrades, funded by a nearly $5 million Caltrans Clean California grant, include new pavement, wayfinding signage, improved accessibility, solar lighting, urban greening, and a new public art mural. These enhancements revitalize 1.8 miles of the highly used trail connecting Ventura to Ojai.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to creating a sustainable, vibrant community,” said Mayor Joe Schroeder. “By enhancing Ventura’s active transportation with improved infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, and incorporating public art, we’re not just beautifying our city—we’re fostering a healthier, more connected, and environmentally conscious Ventura.”
