On July 27-29, local PODS Moving and Storage leader is donating its services to help the 26th annual Ventura County Stand Down (VCSD) to help end veteran homelessness.

During the two-night, three day event, homeless veterans and their immediate family members will have access to housing, hot meals, clothing, dental, medical, hygiene products, 50 outreach programs free legal counseling, as well as other social services that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

“Dropping off the two PODS container full of donations and items for the VCSD event is truly an amazing sight to see,” said Al Jonas, Vice President of Regional Operations. “Claire as well as her team work tirelessly for months to lift the spirits of the veterans who attend and PODS is just honored to support them and our local veterans.”

Beginning in early April, VCSD has carried out the task of collecting donations of clothes, shoes and other luxuries that some people take for granted. The donation of two PODS containers will be used to store donated items, equipment as well as other items and will be transported to the location where it will be unloaded.

“PODS is truly our savior,” said Claire Hope, Founder and Director of VCSD. “When Steve Yapp of PODS heard about our event over two years ago, he stepped in with the donation of 2 containers. PODS allows us the freedom to access our stored items year round to ensure we can gather donations and prepare for our big Ventura County Stand Down Event in support of our local Veterans and their families.”

For more information or to help volunteer, visit vcstanddown.org

About PODS: Steve Yapp is the owner of three Tri-Counties PODS franchises that serve residents and businesses in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.

Dedicated to the local community, Yapp’s franchises have donated hundreds of PODS containers to nonprofit and charitable organizations throughout Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, San Diego and Los Angeles counties since opening their doors in 2005.

A partial list of recipients include: Boys & Girls Clubs, FOOD Share of Ventura County, Casa Pacifica, Toys 4 Tots, California Strawberry Festival, Ojai Music Festival, Relay for Life, C.H.P. While managing a busy schedule, homeowners are finding they need to ‘bridge’ the gap between decluttering, sorting, storing and moving their home furnishings from point A to point B.

“PODS containers are the solution to ‘bridge’ the storage gap needed for customers looking to store their belongings in-between staging and selling their home for any given time,” says Steve Yapp, owner of local PODS moving and storage. “By using a PODS container, homeowners can take their time using the PODS ‘bridge’ business model to move their home furnishings at their convenience.”

With the peak home buying season here, now is the time for residents to begin the decluttering process and prepare for home staging. Moving and storage provider, local PODS moving and storage, offers homeowners expertise on seamlessly moving and storing home furnishings.

“As a busy listing agent on the Central Coast, I routinely recommend PODS moving and storage to my sellers, as they are so convenient and allow a person to pack up on their home on their own terms. PODS containers are particularly helpful to sellers who are staging their home and need to minimize possessions and clutter,” Nancy Allison, Taylor Hoving Realty Group. “I encourage my busy clients to pack 5 boxes a day for the PODS container and in no time, the PODS container is filled and ready to be picked up and stored for them until they move to their new home. They are so relieved and appreciative, and so am I!”

For more information, go to: www.mylocalpods.com

On Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m.-2p.m., the Ventura Unified School District Education Service Center will transform into a pop-up book fair that will celebrate the joy of reading.

The donation of the PODS container will allow the Ventura Education Partnership and the Ventura Neighborhood for Learning to store more than 1,800 free books that will be distributed to children who have their passports stamped.

“PODS is happy to play a part in helping to store the free books for the 3,000 children that will attend StoryFest,” expresses Steve Yapp, local PODS franchise owner. “We love to help out the local community especially an event like Storyfest that helps to prepare younger children for school.”

The event will give out free books in the six storytelling tents that will have books read in English, Spanish and American Sign Language. Families and their children can also participate in other various activities such as signing up for library cards, book giveaways, musical activities, and a truckfest that will allow children the opportunity to get up close and touch trucks.

An outreach event for Ventura Neighborhood for Learning that began 9 years ago, StoryFest has continued to grow significantly and helped more and more children discover their love of reading.

“We can’t thank PODS enough for their kindness and generosity,” said Cathy Puccetti of First 5 Ventura Neighborhood for Learning. “The donation of the PODS containers has been such a blessing that has helped us store and distribute more free books this year.”

What: Local PODS Moving and Storage, Ventura Education Partnership – StoryFest

When: Saturday, October 8 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Where: The Education Service Center (Field Area), 255 W. Not only did the local community take action but the business community networked to get the word out for donations to assist. When Steve Yapp, owner of local PODS Moving and Storage, heard about the couple’s hardship, his team stepped in to help.

The moving and storage leader will donate the use of a PODS container so the couple can store their treasured memories and household items while they’re transitioning into their new home. PODS will then move the container to the Kawecki’s new home in Newbury Park.

“When this story broke a couple of months back, the business community pulled together their resources to figure out how to help this couple get back on their feet,” said Yapp. “PODS wanted to do anything we could to help. On July 29-31, local PODS Moving and Storage leader is donating its services to help the 24th annual Ventura County Stand Down (VCSD) work to end veteran homelessness.

During the two-night, three day event, homeless veterans and their immediate family members will have access to housing, hot meals, clothing, dental, medical, hygiene products, 50 outreach programs free legal counseling, as well as other social services that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

“PODS is committed to helping our veterans get back on their feet,” said Steve Yapp, owner of local PODS moving and storage. “They not only deserve our gratitude but our respect for serving our country and taking part in Ventura County Stand Down is our small way of saying thank you for your service.”

Beginning in early April, VCSD has carried out the task of collecting donations of clothes, shoes and other luxuries that some people take for granted. The donation of two PODS containers will be used to store donated items, equipment as well as other items and will be transported to the location where it will be unloaded.

“After 23 years of trying to find locations to store our equipment and expensive items in our garages, the donation of the PODS containers will save us a lot of time and headache,” said Claire Hope, Founder and Director of VCSD. “We all just took a breath because a lot of our funds were going to moving and storage costs, now they can go to more important expenses.”

For more information or to help volunteer, visit vcstanddown.org.

To help during the summer time surge of family moves, local PODS moving and storage offers a number of tips and things to watch for when moving with children:

Plan ahead. Talk to children about moving plans, develop a graphic of their new room and home, and make a map of new schools, parks, playgrounds, and other features.

Make it fun. Make a map of the route to the new home, showing sights along the way. Plan a “family camp” the first night in the new home. Make unpacking a scavenger hunt, by having kids look for hidden items among the belongings. Try making a puzzle out of rearranging the new home.

Keep it safe. Especially for very young children, having dangerous items like knives, saws, cleaning fluids or even electronics loose and unprotected can be hazardous, but can also be unavoidable during packing or unpacking. Make sure these items are secure as possible. Also, follow children for about half an hour as they explore new surroundings, making note of what attracts them.

How PODS unique containers and services can help.

PODS moving and storage methods provide unique and effective ways to help ease the disruption and anxiety of moving with children.

Pack and unpack on schedule. This makes it easier to arrange moving around children’s activities, and can provide more time for planning and family discussions. When ready to unpack, help children adjust to their new home.

Storage to match priorities. If the new home isn’t ready yet, store the PODS containers at one of the secure Storage Centers nationwide. This may allow for a mini-vacation with the children, and more time to prepare for new surroundings.

Load and unload without high ramps. PODS containers are at ground level so it’s easier to get the kids to help with packing and unpacking too.

Get just the right container. Every move is different, and different houses require different containers. Having the right sizes will make packing and unpacking easier and faster, giving more time for the kids.

Get in touch with Customer Service. Moving consultants are experts at the challenges of relocating. Advice just a phone call away, for nearly every situation.

“At PODS, we want a family’s move with PODS a seamless experience and that means making the process of moving as easy as possible for them,” said Steve Yapp, owner of local PODS moving and storage. “The transition between houses can be stressful especially when a family has to find a way to store their belongings for an extended amount of time. A PODS container allows the flexibility that a family needs to make the moving process easier.”

The 2015-2016 campaign, which ran from October 2015 until Super Bowl Sunday, finished big by replenishing its warehouse shelves with more than 396,202 pounds of food.

FOOD Share holds its yearly Tackle Hunger campaign during its critical time of the year when the community’s support is most needed to help feed the 74,500 people the regional food bank helps each month. This year, FOOD Share’s goal was to raise 150,000 pounds of food.

“The fact that we more than doubled our goal this year is astonishing,” stated Bonnie Atmore, president and CEO of FOOD Share. “Each year we are humbled and inspired by the growing support of our community who believe in our mission to end hunger for our neighbors and friends. We thank everyone who has joined us on this journey to make Ventura County a better and healthier place.”

In addition to meeting its goal for food donations, FOOD Share also received $194,093 in monetary donations during Tackle Hunger.

About FOOD Share: More than 35 years ago, eight citizens performed a good deed by distributing food to those who were in need underneath a Ventura bridge. The early philanthropic movement quickly formed into what is now Ventura County’s regional food bank, FOOD Share, which has grown from serving a few hundred hungry people per month to 74,500 people. Today, staff and volunteers distribute more than 10 million pounds of food annually from two warehouses; more than 180 partner agencies, which include neighborhood and church food distributions and soup kitchens; as well as hunger assistance programs. FOOD Share’s programs provide healthy nutrition and education to children, families and seniors, which include: Kids’ Farmers Market, SENIOR Share, Nutrition Education, Community Market, SoCal Gas CARE Program and more. A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, FOOD Share is a member of the Feeding America network, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. On race day, the donated PODS containers served as the official “Santa’s Sleigh” and securely stored almost 4,000 toys donated during the event.

On Dec. 19, the PODS containers transported the toys to Santa Claus Park in the underserved Oxnard neighborhood of Neyland Acres. The highly visual arrival of this special PODS container delivery signaled the beginning of a morning that brings hope and happiness to the community. Local fire, police, sheriff and CHP volunteers lined Ventura Blvd to unpack the PODS containers and distribute toys to the over 300 families and children that line-up each year.

“We are honored to once again provide Santa to the Sea and the local community with moving and storage logistics to help collect, transport, and distribute toys for the 12th annual Santa Claus Park toy giveaway,” said Steve Yapp, owner of local PODS Moving and Storage. “It’s our responsibility as a community to come together and help give back to children and families in need. The local outpouring of support of the community including all of our service men and women can be seen on the children’s faces as they leave with a toy.”

The Santa Claus Park toy giveaway began in 2003 when event director Mike Barber realized the community’s need for support during the holidays was growing. He transformed the iconic Santa statue into the starting line for the annual Santa to the Sea half marathon and toy drive and it now serves as a symbol of giving in the community of Oxnard.

“PODS participation in this event has been absolutely unbelievable and we cannot begin to describe how much it means to us to have their support,” said Barber. “Their ability to provide logistics to ensure these families in need receive these toys for the holidays makes the process a seamless experience.”
