CAMARILLO — The Ventura County Genealogical Society will present a Free Family History Mini-Seminar on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Camarillo Library Community Room, 4101 Las Posas Road, Camarillo.

PRESENTATIONS BY GENA PHILIBERT-ORTEGA:

1:00 P.M. 10 DATABASES YOU DIDN’T KNOW WERE ON ANCESTRY.COM
Sure, you know the census, city directories, and the World War I Draft registration on Ancestry.com, but what about those little-known databases that include images, digitized books, and indexes? There are hidden treasures in Ancestry for those who know how to find them. We will explore searching on Ancestry to uncover the lesser known databases and we’ll look at 10 specific ones for your research.

2:30 P.M. TACKLING A RESEARCH PROJECT
You want to research your great-grandma. Great! Now what? After you spend some time looking online and have hit the brick wall, what are you supposed to do? Tackling a research project is so much more than entering names into a database. Learn more about planning, creating, and researching so that your time online and off will be a success.

Gena Philibert-Ortega holds a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Psychology and Women’s Studies) and a Master’s degree in Religion. Gena has spoken to groups throughout the United States and Canada, as well as virtually to audiences worldwide on various subjects involving genealogy, women’s studies and social history.

11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.: VCGS DNA SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP MEETING
Join us for discussion on using DNA results to further your genealogy research. Please bring your DNA User Name & Password; also bring your family tree (paper or electronic). If possible, bring your laptop, tablet or other portable device; this will facilitate your research.
