Enhanced Facilities Will Support Expanded Services for Lompoc Families
LOMPOC — Family Service Agency (FSA) has relocated its Dorothy Jackson Family Resource Center (DJFRC) to 646 North H Street in Lompoc. The new location has larger facilities for its parent and healthy relationship classes with enough room for on-site childcare. It is also along a major bus route in Lompoc, making it easily accessible to families.
FSA’s DJFRC seeks to support and strengthen families and individuals who face barriers to family wellness, such as poverty, homelessness, family violence, substance abuse, and unemployment. Through comprehensive services, the Family Resource Center is a safe environment to nurture families, promote learning, and build social connections so that families and communities thrive.
“We take a lot of pride in the fact that the Dorothy Jackson Family Resource Center has been a community center for over 25 years,” said Program Manager, Ashleigh Erving.
In 1993, FSA dedicated the Center to former Lompoc principal, Dorothy Jackson, who died in 2006.
“Dorothy thought there should be a place that would focus on strengthening students, families, and community,” explained Erving. “When the state made funds available to support low-income families through the Healthy Start program, Jackson’s staff wrote a grant. The center was among the first to be funded. For the past 20 years, this program has offered opportunities for children and their families to support their success in school, in the community, and in life.”
The Family Resource Center’s bilingual/bicultural staff live in the local community. Every year, more than 1,500 families seek help from this community resource.
FSA will continue to provide mental health, senior support services, and Big Brothers Big Sisters out of its other Lompoc location at 101 South B Street.
