Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley (BGCGCV) Holds 16th Annual Superstars of the Year Celebration and Announce Winners of Youths of the Year

AGOURA — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley (BGCGCV) are pleased to announce the Youth of the Year winners for 2018. The winners were recognized at the 16thAnnual Superstars of the Year Celebration, which took place on March 17 at the Performing Arts Education Center at Agoura High School.

Annette Gonzalez, 14 years old, won the 14 and up category. Gonzales is a student at Newbury Park High School and has been a club member for over four years. Joshua Greenberg, 13, was awarded the 13 and under Youth of the Year award. Greenberg attends Colina Middle School in Thousand Oaks and has been a club member for over eight years. Both were selected through a process including essays they submitted to a panel of community judges and in-person interviews.

Besides the Youth of the Year winners, the event also recognized volunteers for their commitment in making a positive impact on the BGCGCV, and the community as a whole. Other event highlights included a variety show featuring club members who performed dance and musical numbers they learned through the BGCGCV Music & Performing Arts Program.

For nearly 70 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Youth of the Year program has honored and celebrated the nation’s most inspiring youth and their incredible journeys. Stories of outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle have made Youth of the Year the premier leadership and recognition program for youth. These amazing young people represent the voice and spirit of hope for the community. Inspiring all kids to lead, to succeed, to inspire.

The National Youth of the Year provides an opportunity for the 14 and up category to advance to the next round, Coastal Youth of the Year.  The coastal area is made up of clubs in Ventura, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Moorpark, Simi Valley, Ojai and Port Hueneme.  Scholarship opportunities are also available to Youth of the Year recipients in this category.
